This may be an "off the wall" question however, I was wondering how many OES exist in the world today; in all continents? Can we even reasonably even guess? Moreover, how can we insure that the breed is perpetuated for future generations to enjoy? Seems like nothing though, if you stop to think about it...could you imagine a future world without the OES? (I can't) What if the breed eventually disentergrated into the annals of history and was nothing more less or else than a footnote in the annals of "doggie history"? Will the breed succomb to "puppy mills" diminishing the breed and concomitantly ascribing to urban growth when OES are no longer useful in any rural environment for the simple purpose of herding sheep and livestock? In short, have we reached the "end of days" for this breed in terms of practicality and how can the OES continue in these days and times? Moreover, Is there a use for the OES in our world today for the non OES owner? If so, what are the real selling points of the OES to a "wannabe dog owner" in our increasingly urban environment? Has the OES simply slipped into oblivion due to the changing nature of rural economics and urban realites due to the desire for "designer type low maintenance dogs?" OK, now that I have gotten your attention and certainly ire! (as is it would have mine!) What can we do about the future of the OES? How can we best perpetuate the breed of dog that we love? So that there is a tommorrow for my dogs progenitors...and yours. |
