Have you heard that line before? Here in Mexico, OES's are not that common, so when we take them to a public place they are all the rage, and almost every one claims to have had a dog that looked just like an OES, but smaller, or curlier or a different color. I guess everyone has an OES in their heads. Have you heard a funny line about your OES? |

Oh dear! Almost everytime I am out with Albert I get a "When I was little we had a old english sheepdog" and I usually get to hear a story about it. Seems half the population of my town owned one as a child. lol. |
I hear that a lot too - I think they were really popular after the relaes of "The Shaggy Dog" and the subsequent "The Shaggy D. A." and then "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" Lots of people had them in the sixties and the seventies - (Paul McCartney included - he had Martha)- they must've been the rage. I picked up an OES breed book at a used bookstore- copywrite 1965 and it said that the OES was a wildly popular breed that was on the verge of becoming overbred and over-exposed, sort of like the pitt bull, Rottweiller, Golden Retreiver, Wemereiner, thing these days. My husband fears the OES is creeping back into the press/media at an alarming rate - Target, Ralph Lauren, Serta, are all presently featuring the OES in advertising.
On a nicer note- my son's 4th grade teacher , this year, had an OES as a child and has insisted on lots of photos for show and tell- she is still a devotee! Up. |
