IT IS AWFUL AND I COULD CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a phone call into the company to see if I can return it. But I wondered has anyone ever done this before?? |

Photos on canvas CAN be lovely if done correctly. There is a process for either art or photos called "giclee" printing that can be done on canvas, and is wonderful, BUT it is very expensive. I do my reproductions (from silk paper collage) this way, but JUST the color scan (not including the printing) starts at about 300.00-500.00 .
I've done "brushstroking" (sounds kinda dirty, doesn't it ) myself when I worked at a frame shop. Its hideously lame ...all the "artist" does is paint on clear acrylic paint with a brush and make sure the stokes show. Im so sorry yours turned out bad Is it too late to have the photo redone traditionally, and put into a nice frame? By the way...somthing that kept showing up over and over on E-Bay that annoyed me was somebody selling OES "paintings" that are actually brush stroked photos...they call them "original texture" paintings...blech! |
Well, I didn't expect it to look like a Master painting but all it looks like is a fuzzy print on canvas, no brush stroke or any indication that it's a "painting", just a blurry picture |
I paint portraits on the computer and most times I print them out on my own printer on art paper and they look great, well this time I sent the file to be printed on canvas... boy what a mistake... the colour was horrible , now I think I will buy some canvas and do my own printing so that my colours are at least right |

That sucks Was this a local job, or did you mail it out to be done? They should certainly take it back and either refund your $ or redo it! |
I just got off the phone with the company (in Texas). They are going to "redo" it and just make it a regular print (sans the brush strokes) on canvas. Which is better than doing nothing I suppose. |
Todd's mom had a family picture done that way - it turned out very nice. I am not sure where it was actually done - it was a finish the photography studio offered. |
Paul had one done of his father.........way before computers......and it is wonderful. Sometimes computer work is NOT better than working from a photograph. |
I'm sure you know this, but after enlarging a photo it may be necessary to take a step or two back to not see some graininess in the picture. The canvas's texture would tend to augment the grainy feeling too, I would think.
Try putting it on the mantle and step 8 or 10 feet away. |

Try putting it on the mantle and step 8 or 10 feet away. That was one of the reasons I only had a 5x7 done. Grainy I could take but blurry is BLECH. I did hang it on the wall and will look at it for a day or two. I may end up keeping it for myself and giving my brother the clearer one. If so I'll let them know and pay for it. I have a few days before the replacement arrives to decide. |
How disappointing. I've had a few done locally and they turned out well. But, I would definitely get my money back if I wasn't satisfied. I hope the one for your brother arrives in time for Christmas and looks better than the one you have now. |
