I know you are supposed to give cats raw pumpkin to entice them to eat if they go on a hunger strike but not sure about dogs though. I would imagine in small quantities it is fine but too much might cause a tummy ache. |
Yes - it's okay. Many people routinely give their dogs pumpkin along with their regular food. It's used as a deterent for poop eating too! |
If they will eat it raw, I suppose it it fine. I was told to feed Abbi canned pumkin to increase the fiber in her diet. It also has a lot of beta carotene in it. Some individiuals can have a sensitivity to beta carotene, but it is a great anti-oxidant. It is about the same as feeding them carrots.
Abbi doesn't like pumkin, so I had to go to peas. She licks herself so much she gets hair balls and starts this choking cough. I get hre checked for heartworms and then give her more fiber. Presto! The cough disappears. So now I try to add some fiber to her diet once a week or so. Beaware: It does give them loose bowels on occasion. |
My Sister-In-Law - a dog breeder, recommended that I feed Pepsi canned Pumpkin to get rid of his diarrhea. It worked wonders. He had his first solid poop! |
