I didn't see any fleas on my dogs until I bathed them.
That said it could also be food allergies. |
Is it a certain area or all over? |
It has been so dry in our house lately, Clyde (and me for that matter) has been scratching a lot, too. A gave him a benedryl to calm his skin down and it seemed to lessen the amount of itching since. I wish I could say it worked as well for me. |
Yes, could be the food. What kind is sheepie on? |
Bella is on Ekanuaba (sp) Adult lamb and rice. She was on the ame food as a puppy but we switched to the adult in November. The iching started before then. It seems to be mostly on her left side and back that she scratches most. |
Dogs do develop allergies to lamb. but I still wouldn't rule out the fleas. |
I did not know that lamb is known to cause allergies in dogs. That could be reason for Obe's itching. I switched his food but he still gets lamb treats. Is it something in the lamb that causes this? Or is it just certain dogs? |
I just know that a few people I know have dogs who are allergic to lamb - I always thought it was less likely to cause allergies but I guess that doesn't mean it doesn't cause allergies.
I was told to try single source protein (and yes wheat and otherr grains have protein) food for a few weeks. if the itching stops add one additional protein source at a time. I started last week with a fish based food because I was told it is important for the dogs to have fish in their diet. Of course this week we had a snow storm, I ran out of the small bag of special food and Marley is back on the Canidae - I figure after the holidays I can concentrate on this more easily. |
