Are sheepdogs an addiction?

I just noticed that Miley's breeder has puppies! :D Miley asked for friends for Christmas. So I am seriously considering. I have to go through and read posts from going from a 1 dog family to a 2 dog family.

But my big question is - if we do decide on another dog is there a good age of the first dog? Miley is about 18 month and still has some puppy tenencies so I am wondering if I should wait a little longer.

Thanks in advance.

Yes sheepies are addictive hard to stop at just one.

Take into consideration firstly the other end of the spectrum having them close together there going to be elderly at pretty much the same time.

People forget that, mine have been always around 3-4 years apart and I actually find that great as the older one is fully mature, past the puppy & teenage stage, more mellow with maturity and they teach the youngster coming into the family a lot. So it makes it a lot easier then with the age gap.

Up to you wether now or wait another 12 months or so.

Hard to resist the temptation.
Quick answer....yes.
We adopted Violet from a rescue at 9mts old and when she was 15mts old we adopted my Aussie, China, who was 8wks old. I have never regreted either adoption. China gave another dog for Violet to play with and they had a ball. They are also very entertaining to watch play. They are now 5 and 4 years old. I am all for more then one dog households.
Sorry....I don't know the answer.....but wouldn't it be fun to have TWO baby sheepies???????
i never thought i could have more then one. now i have 3 .. they only problem is 2 of them are 8 montrhs apart and both have seriously ill. both are 12 ..
I have two, six months apart. Go for it. Twice the fun :D
I agree with the older dog theory. I have alway introduced puppies to an older dog and they show them the ropes. A 3 yr old will still play like a puppy, and the age difference is enough that you shouldn't end up with 2 geriatric dogs at once. It was a little tougher this time around as we lost the older dog after the pup was here a few months. Now we have 3 yr old Bella and 7 month old Nigel...great age difference. Yes...sheepies are an addiction!!!!
Training a puppy in the winter stinks, too! Speaking from experience, if I ever had the choice, I'd wait until another time of the year. That way, when he refuses to go to the bathroom and tries to bite your pant legs, it won't be so cold when the wind blows into the holes!
It would be hard for me to resist too. What a tough decision!
Yes, they are an addiction!
I feed the addiction one OES at a time (so far) but I have other dogs too to consider. Regardless of breed, the age issue is something to thinks about. We have several grouped together -agewise- at our house.
14, 9, 8, 7, 2, 2, almost 2.
The 9 yr old has a chronic illness, so I would group him healthwise with the 14 yr old.
It is something to consider - not that I follow it! I am more a person to grab the opportunity - when the right dog came along - I got it!
oes fever for sure. Mine are 8 months apart now 13 months and 5 months and they are doing great. Getting old together is hard, I know my moms dogs have always been within a year and they do miss each other when one pass on. she is on dog 6 and 7 over many years. They do keep each other company good and bad. . Lucky i do not live on a farm
Chiming in to add that I've always preferred having puppies in warm weather months, for ease of house training, especially. I'd wait until warm, dry weather to limit the mess.
I had two within 6 weeks of each other as puppies - not my brightest move. Now at 2 they are in some ways "developmentally behind " because they have continued their puppy play. :P
one thing about winter pups here, is when you run out of snow they are running around tryng to find it to pee on. All mine have been winter pups or early snow.
I must say that I have decided to wait until Obe is older before he gets a brother/sister. I have gave this serious thought and feel that waiting till he grows up 17 months now would be best. I want one now is the problem. I have looked into getting a rescue and still will just not now.

 Okay Lisa,

Martin is almost 6 and Virgil 5 1/2 (yes we got them very close together and we know the probability of what will eventually happen.) Now Dawnie will be three in the summer. Does that mean it wil be time to get another Bobtail this summer?

Hey how did they all get to be this old, I thought the contract said they would get to 4 and then stop aging so we would always have them! At least that's what I wanted :!:

Oh yes just a bit fatally addicted to these kids!

Thanks and Cheers

Carl

If you have to ask it's already too late for you :!:
My sister and I have had sheepies at the same time for the past 13 years. The first two were brothers, she came with me to pick him up and couldn't resist taking one for herself. (See what I started)
The two we have now are related again, her Rufus is Cooper's uncle.
I love it that it seems like I have owned 4 so far because we raise the dogs close to each other, also with her other dog Molly.
I am an addicted OES person for sure.
They are loved by all of our family members also.

 If you have to ask it is probably more a state of denial :!: Yep, time for another bundle of love and energy.
If I think about getting another dog...there is no question of what it would be. I have two now. It's the first time I have had more than one OES at a time. Twice the fun!!! :D

Uhmmm, SOMETIMES :D . With the exception of Flash we've always had 2 puppies at the same time. Luke and Beau were littermates and just over year old when we got Rosco and Daisy who were 2 months apart. Now we have Gabriel and Jonah, they are one day apart and are now 8 months old. Of course this time I'm a lot older and maybe not so wise.....but I enjoy all of them :hearts:
I was hoping the BETTY FORD CLINIC would open a new wing for the sheepie addics I will be one of the first to admit my addiction or is there such a thing as SA Sheepies Anonymous!!! :D :D :D
i think we can class this forum as close as we are going to get to sheepies anonymous!!!!!

i really want another one but life is not atthat point yet but when it is
