"My name is Henley" my life and times as a rescue dog. This is a wonderful book and the story is told by Henley the OES. I talked to the author yesterday and some of the sales will go to the OES rescue. You can order it at Barnes and Noble, it's only $11. sounds like a great Christmas gift for OES lovers. Mine is on the way. Thanks |

Great minds think alike. I just posted this under General Chat. |
Hi...
What a great web site! I only found it because I was doing a Google search! ... Good for Google. Henley is the 7th sheepdog I have had the pleasure to own in my lifetime. The first one came along in the mid-60s. Oh, we had some other dogs earlier on, but there's just something about a Sheepdog that I so dearly love. I am terribly sorry about the gentleman who said he got a "Henley" book from a friend of his but that I spelled his name wrong. I always ask how to spell a name even if it's Mary. (some Mary's spell their names: Mari ....) I learned the hard way. Sooooooo.... I would be happy to send him another book as a gift.... with the correct spelling. It's not nice to have a book signed to you if the name is wrong. As for "The Boy"...Henley will be 11 years old on his next birthday and he is still acting like a puppy --- a slower puppy but one nonetheless. Hen and I tour schools with a program called: "An Old Dog Teaches Kids New Tricks" ... and it talks about the horrors of puppy mills... how to love and care for a pet... and the joy (to owner and four-legged friend) when an animal is given a second chance at life. The kids usually have read his book by then, so they are excited to ask questions and see the old boy himself. There are many happily ever afters out there for our animal friends... we just have to reach these children while they are young enough to learn that to nurture a pet or another human being is to also nurture ourselves... to find the best part of ourselves. It's a beautiful thing to be Henley's mom and a blessing to see what a difference his story is making for those who will also be able to make a genuine difference someday! |
They say timing is everything - and here's proof!

Please post pictures of Henley - we THRIVE on pictures!! I was getting confused.... Isn't that an odd coincidence Welcome Judith!!!! As I posted on the other thread I have a foster dog that was adopted by a lady close to where you and Henley live! Small world! Glad to see you here!! |
Hi again...
Timing really is everything!!!! I'm trying to learn how to load photos I guess I'll figure it out soon and have some up and running here shortly. Does it matter how many are posted? Is five too many? Also... I am so happy you read and liked Henley's book. Part of the proceeds are going to three rescue organizations. I named them in the back of the book, but I think to be fair, I will just say (in the next printing) that royalties will be donated to rescue organizations so I can switch up now and then and help everyone we can. And, there is another book in the works... sorta kinda. It's going to be called, "Henley and the New Puppy" !!!!! I don't want to jinx anything.... so I'll leave it at that. Love to all of you and your darling sheepdogs. Judy |
Judy, I just noticed you live in NJ. Where? I live close to the PA/NJ border, about 60 miles north of Philly. Again - what a small world!!
Is five pictures too many??? Obviously you're new here - there are NEVER too many pictures!! Here are the instructions: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=1119 |
I can't wait to order for Christmas gifts. Thank you for joining the forum and for your donations to rescue. |
YAY, Another Henley book Do we have any idea when this book will be out? I am so very excited And WELCOME JUDITH |
Well, now that you are part of the forum family that means we could impose.
How do we get autographed copies? |
Hi again....
As for a few questions that were asked: I live in a town called Pennsauken in its Collins Tract section. It's about 5 miles from Philly... just a hop, skip and a jump over the bridge. As for autographed copies of the book.... although NEOESR has a limited edition copy... the newer book that is online at Barnes, etc. is the one I now tour schools with. I could take your address and mail you a copy. ????? They're only 10.00. I think shipping is about 2.00. My mailing address is: Aquinas&Krone Publishing P.O. Box 1304 Merchantville, NJ 08109 The "new" dog book depends all on the new dog. We were promised a puppy that people just couldn't care for and Henley absolutely loved the pup... and then they decided to give it away to someone else. I was so heartbroken. ... still am. So is Hen. |
Welcome Judi & Henley!
I'm looking forward to getting your book and reading all about Henley's adventures. |
Hi...
I'm curious (as is Henley) Did any of you read his book yet? It's doing well and we're spreading the good word about the many Old English Sweetdogs (as well as others) who need loving homes. Far too many dogs are in rescue. |
Hi Judith:
I was fortunate enough to meet you at NEOESR fund raising auction last year (and get Henley's book at the same time). If any of you haven't read it yet - get it. It's a fabulous book. And I agree, there are far too many dogs in rescue right now. Including the incredibly sweet, 10 year old, blind girl that I'm currently fostering (you can check her out on the NEOESR website http://www.neoesr.org ) So, please keep informing people about how sweet rescue OES can be. Jennifer, Baxter and Cassiopia .....and Abby |
I've written to the lovely Ms. Raker (I met her and really loved her)
WHAT ENERGY!!!!!!!!! ... and I really want to have another OES or two. I never just had ONE... but when Henley came along he was so needy that he required all of my undivided attention. Maybe when we go to the fundraiser (we're bringing Henley along this time) in October... we'll see if he takes a shine to another sheepdog. He's okay with other animals now and then... but that's not 100%... so ... I worry. The 5 rescued cats get along well with each other AND the dog... maybe we'll get lucky and find a pal for Good Ole Henley! |
Judith , I really hope you get another sheepie I enjoyed the first book so much !!! Maybe Henley could write another book sharing his expriences with the new sheepie in the house I think his view on the newbie would be great. My husband even read it and loved it!! He does not even read the paper. |
Hi Judith, I live about 7 minutes from you a couple blocks from the Delaware River.
I also did the home check visit for the rescue home placement in Merchantville, NJ that Donner's Mom mentioned. This is the first I'm reading this thread about your book and hope to purchase one soon. I'm heading out to the National in Minnesota this year, along with a few other people from the forum. I would be happy to hand deliver books (signed?) to anyone who is going, or if someone that has a booth there who is willing to sell them. Which shelter did you get Henley from? Here in NJ? There were 2 OES's in Burlco Animal shelter in the spring and you don't see them listed around here too often. |
You know I really think Dapne and Henley should meet.
May be love at first sight. |
Judith, my husband & I read your book on vacation last week ( yea, we're getting old ). Bobby said maybe we could do a rescue....and I'm going to hold him to it.
We had to order it from our local Borders and LOVED it. Henley is Blessed Thanks... |
I just ordered a copy from Amazon and am very excited to read it. . . |
Thank you for all of the kind things you've had to say about Henley' story.
I'm touring as many schools as I can this year (New Jersey and Philadelphia areas) with Henley to educate the children about rescue and loving and nurturing our animal friends. What better way to see the positive results than to bring the former puppy mill runt to school with me... now all big and beautiful because many people came in to the equation... and cared... and took what could have been a very sad situation and made it a WONDERFUL ONE!~~!~~! |
