As most of you know- family issues have plagued us for a while... so, when we planned a Christmas get together with John's Dad and step Mom - we were pleasantly suprised that two of his brothers would join us. My plan was to decorate the tree last Thursday, but, John thought it needed to 'fall" a bit more (it's a real one). Friday eve I was having an " MS" moment and so didn't get started on decorating any of the house until early Saturday morning. At 2:00 in the afternoon - I was still in I crappy sweat pants and had a mountain of boxes to put away. We were eating at 6--- standing rib roast - garlic roasted potatoes, asparagus etc... Here is where I will begin to chronical the drama! 1. Phone rings at 2:15- I am just starting to clean up the house and get ready to start cooking. Dad and Marge will be leaving their house at 3 and be at ours by 3:30. Her single son is bringing them... WHAT--- I am a mess- the house still needs vacumed and I need to cook--- in PEACE. I say " Of course. come anytime" as I fly to the shower and yell at John to vacum and peel potatoes. 2. I get out of the shower to find John with the garbage disposal torn apart-- plugged it with the peelings. I am always in trouble for putting them down the disposal, yet, he is the one that plugs it. Lots of yelling - lots of tears-- (mine) but we manage to unplug and get it all cleaned up as they pull in the garage. I am still in my robe, hair undried and no makeup. I tell John to entertain until I get ready. Make a mad dash to the bedroom and hastily try to look half was decent. 3 . Dinner is nice-- two of John's brothers are here and we have a really GOOD time. Even sing Christmas carols. 4. Fast forward to Sunday morn. I am going shopping with Mom. Go to the mudroom bath to take a shower and the floor is sopping. Wake John- and through tears and screams ( mine) he determines that the ring needs replaced. I know nothing about that -- BUT that room was just painted - papered and new tile laid, so I scream FIX IT... as I go back to John's bathroom to get ready. 5. Get home from shopping- John has the flu ( so he says ) and the water is shut off but the toilet is still not fixed. 6. He snores all night and I sleep in the Den until around 4:00 am when a loud crash stirs both of us. We run to the living room. The tree has toppled over. I thought it only happened in movies. Through tears and screams ( mine) I go back to bed and pull the blankets over my head while John gets the tree back upright. Seems the new "victorian looking cast iron stand" I HAD to have, had split. Great. 7. I tell John I will redecorate tonight-- have to start from square one again. 8. John goes to take a shower and asks if I have the dishwasher running. NO--- well, there is water running somewhere- we can hear it. John is naked- so I go sleuthing around. Nothing in the house. I open the French doors to the patio and hear water gushing. Seems that the hose was never drained this fall and the nozzle was still attached-- and the spiquet ( sp!!) was still on. Water was gushing. I turned it off as I stomped through a pond in the back yard. Came in and through tears and screams ( mine) said I was hibernating for the winter. 9. John leaves for work- I get up to take a shower and lying on the floor in the hallway is the quilt that hangs on the wall. Even though he says not- I think John tore it off the wall. ( not really, but at this point I am loosing my mind) 10. Shower- get ready - go to the garage to get in the car- Max had peed on the floor while he was eating ( still has a bit of a problem- and apparently we forgot the diaper with everything else.) I slipped and fell in it. 11. Went back in house- changed my ripped tights and skirt. Had to iron a whole new outfit and call my client and tell them I would be an hour late. 12. Just finished redecorating the tree, while drinking lots of wine coolers. Toilet is fixed- hoses are drained - quilt is re-hung with a new hickory wall hanger. Merry Christmas to all... and to all... a Good night. |

Yikes Lori!
Sounds like you definitely could have used my hubby (the plumber) at your house this weekend. Sorry for all you have been through. |
OMG Lori! What a busy, stressful, eventful weekend! I hope things will be a little more quiet for you.
However, this leaves one important question unanswered: What did you have for dessert? |
You definately need lots of these, hey things have to be on the up and up now.
|
Lori: I am so sorry to see that you have had a "Murphy's Law" (if it can go wrong it will) Weekend. The good news...the weekend is behind you and all new stresses lay before you yet to hatch. I hope these hugs get you through your next rough patch. (ps check your mail..oes Christmas cards might be there and they always life a spirit.) |

Yowsa!! Bless your heart!! What a stressful weekend. I sure hope things improve from here. |
Holy moly! I'm surprised you only stuck to wine coolers! I think I'd have moved on to stronger stuff!
I'm glad everything seems to be fixed now... |
ewww Lor,
I was cringing.....that sounds like something that should happen to ME!! Hope your flare-ups subsided...as you know stress does NOT help.....deep breaths..... But as Ron said, how and what was for dessert? and the rib roast...cooked to perfection?????? |
That was one crappy weekend!
You and water are not friends. I hope it all got out of it's system and you have a wonderful time for the reast of the holidays - and beyond! |

However, this leaves one important question unanswered: What did you have for dessert? We had assorted tarts and cookies while we relaxed by the fire. Very nice. The last quiet moment I had before it all broke loose. Yes- Wynn--- send more coolers! Darcy- the roast was pretty good if I do say so myself. Suprised me though. The whole time I was cooking I was hearing about John's step Mom's new "knee highs" that helped circulation. Learned a lot |
oh my |
And I thought MY week-end was bad because I was sick. You topped me, girlfriend!! |
Oh you poor thing! More from me too but hey, I don't think you guys should take any more showers... just in case! |
Oh my! I did start laughing at the point your tree fell over |

Hey! That's not very nice! Lori, I think the way your weekend went is something most of us can relate to, not that it made things easier at the time. Despite all the problems, it sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for... family actually speaking to each other.... no serious health problems mentioned....dinner came out fine.... and you did have another toilet! May the rest of the Holidays go much better for you! Nita |
Holy smoke! Have you checked your horoscope lately? |
Oh my, I think I would have needed Johnnie Walker to rescue me from all that! |
