swollen slits. He seems ok otherwise. I don'r know if the shampoo burned his eyes or he is allergic. I don't know whether to go to the emergency Vet or wait til tomorrow. ANy ideas? |

I'm assuming you did a good eye flush already with clean, cool water already? (I know you're a nurse and likely thought of that!) |
Agree with Jill if you have not all ready flushed his eyes then do it and see how they are in the morning. And repeat for a few days if they look better in the morning.
Was it a shampoo specifically for dogs? Or was it a human shampoo? |
Ive burned my own eyes (badly!) on a number of occasions, usually with solvents To tell you the truth, there really isnt much that a Dr/vet can do for that anyway rinse, rinse, rinse is all Ive ever been advised. Ouch! poor Ty! |
It was tearless dog shampoo, but the first time I have ever used it. "Companion" brand from the grocery store. I usually use Chris Chritiansen on him but ran out and picked this up today. Tearless MY REAR!!!
Yup, flushed good. Applied cold compress' and for good measure gave him some Benedryl. They aren't draining and he isn't rubbing them they are just little slits. I'm not sure they are even swollen, he just won't open them. I guess I'll wait and see how he is in the morning. If he starts to rub I'll put an ecollar on.... if I can find his. |
Oh Ginny, I'm sorry Ty's eyes hurt. Tell Tasker to give aid and comfort.
If you need an e-collar and can't find Ty's, could you make one yourself? There's probably an old thimble around somewhere? |
Veeeeeeeeeery funny Ron!!!! |
Ginny, how is the munchkin doing now?? |
I have this image in my mind of him wearing those wrap around cataract glasses to protect his little injured eyes.
Poor Ty. |
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is better this morning. I did break down and call the Vet He pretty much told me to do what I already did. They are much better this morning, still a bit squinty.. But he is at least opening them. There is no drainage and he isn't rubbing them so I think he'll be ok. Last night when I took them out for "last rounds" it was quite a pathetic site. Tasker usually follows Ty around because he can't see in the dark but Ty didn't want to open his eyes. They both stood in the middle of the driveway doing the pee and poop shuffle. |
Glad he's doing better. Sorry, I can't help laughing about the posts in this thread however. Jill |
Poor Ty, hope he's feeling better soon. Did the vet say anything to whether this was a reaction to the "tearless" shampoo? I'm always worried about getting soap in the dogs' eyes too, so now your experience will make me more manic for sure. |
He said soap is soap and that tearless just means milder soap. I thought it ment it was ok to use around the eyes. Ty had a lot of eye "gook" yesterday so I did actually use the shampoo to clean the hair around his eyes. MY BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never done that before, I ususally just use water around his eyes and face. |
Poor Ty. Glad to hear he is doing better. |
Glad he is doing better Ginny. Darn those boogers, next time a big no no to mom and her shampoo.
Jill that photo is hillarious. |
Poor Ty, glad he is feeling better |
The boys are sending little Ty some sloppy kisses and I'm sending his bad mom a piece of coal.
Glad he's feeling better! Marianne |
How's little Ty doing? I haven't experienced bad shampoo before, so this was a good warning for me. Poor little guy. |
Ty is fully recovered, Mom on the other hand is still suffering from a MAJOR GUILT TRIP!!
Tearless shampoo my REAR! THANKS! |
