I don't know how I feel about it, yet. They said it would be for 6 months (from March 2008) but the company wants to spread in Europe and their next country would be Czech Republic so we would have to move to Praga and then to Budapest, Hungary! So, this means that in a couple of years the company would move us home and Charlie would still have a job! This is what we were hoping for BUT we didn't think it would happen so fast! We have traveled/moved so much in the last couple of years (7 times in two years) that it was going to be nice to settle down for at least 5 years. <sigh> We love the house in Boston and we have some friends there. I could finally start my dog training business properly - I even have clients there already! - and I could unpack ALL of my clothes!!! But being able to move back to Europe with the company is like winning the lottery! It is such a hard decision...we have to get back to them by Monday and they will let us know in a week what will happen next... |

Best wishes with your decision I know how hard it is to make.
My boys are never home, my youngest just got back from Japan and the Philipines and is now off to China with work in the next few weeks for about 6 months. He has not even unpacked the suitcase and is learning to live that way. The other son just got back from the top end of Australia and is off again next week for work he is adjusting too, I am feeling the empty nest syndrome between the two of them. I keep saying how long are you visiting this time . Work well you go where you have too and where they send you. Hopefully in your own heart you will come to an easy decision and if that means back to Europe and if it means a more long term arrangement with being in one place for at least a few years then great. Hey you can still stay in contact with all with the computer and of course oes.org |
Wow! What a decision! It could be the opportunity of a lifetime but I also sense you were looking forward to that house in Boston. I'll be waiting with anticipation to see what you decided. Good luck with everything!

My oldest brother set up a branch office in Warsaw and worked out of there for a couple of years. He absolutely loved Poland and apparently they loved him as they keep asking him to come for visits....weddings, etc. Wonderful people.
I can understand wanting to settle in for a bit, but having job security is also important. |
It will be a hard decision......but
What great adventures you have had and will have...........I know it can get tiring moving around, but look at all you experience..........You probably have friends all over the world!!! |
We'd miss you here, but we'd be very happy for you! |
Where ever you move, as long as you have your spouse, dogs and healthy, everything else is a piece of cake....
although i do not envy you packing.......yuck!!!!! xo, |
From your post it sounds like you're originally from that area. I do hope and pray that it works out for your best interests. |
Thank you for listening...you guys always know what to say!
George, yes, I am from Budapest, Hungary and it would be wonderful to settle down back home. Especially with the company moving us and Charlie keeping his job! It is still hard to get a job if you are a foreign (visa, language, etc.) Darcy, I HATE packing!!!! We could never unpack ALL of our things, I have clothes that I haven't seen for years - disappearing in boxes. Every time someone asks what is the only thing I wish for I say a closet. I wish I could unpack EVERYTHING!!! Val, you are right we do have friends everywhere - which is great when we 'visit' everybody we travel around the world BUT I can't call anybody and say, "hey let's meet for a coffee in half an hour." Nobody is close to us. There are pros and cons of moving a lot of course...but honestly I/We wouldn't mind stopping now... |
Wow, what a tough decision. I know how excited you were about the house. I'm sure you'll make the right choice for you.
Best Wishes, |
What a bummer that you'd have to give up your Boston house! It's so cute! But, moving to Europe would get you closer to home. Too bad it isn't Krakow rather than Warsaw, it's so much prettier and you'd be closer to Hungary for road trips home. We have family outside of Warsaw and have visited a couple of times. It was serious culture shock for us! |
Well, the only thing we can do now is wait. Charlie's boss is going to get back to us in a week.
Jill, Krakow would be so much closer! But if the next place is Praga than it is becoming closer and closer to Budapest! I bet it was a big culture shock for you and even though I've never been there, I'm sure it is like Budapest...except the language...but I can learn the basics quickly I guess. Will keep you posted! Thank you all for being so supportive! |

Thank you all for being so supportive! It is similar to Hungary (at least the few parts that I've visited) in a lot of ways but poorer. I was floored that a lot of people don't have electricity and running water! Also, unlike most of the rest of Europe, no one speaks a lick of English! The really fun part is, I don't speak a lick of Polish (well, please and thank you-- that's it!). My dad speaks fluent Polish but he's out of practice and, even worse, his dialect is northern so when we went south, and had to ask for directions, in the middle of some guy trying to explain something to him, he turns to me and says in English "I don't know what the !@#$ this guy is saying!" and just drove off, leaving the guy staring after us, lol. Needless to say, we had to figure out directions on our own. |
That sounds really exciting, but I share your hatred for packing. Plus Boston is such an awesome city.... so I guess I have no good advice!
How do the dogs adjust to moving? |

Good luck making the decision that will bring you the most happiness! Maybe it's a good thing you found this out before you moved. The house in Boston is awesome though! |

Kata, sounds like re-locating eventually to Hungary is what you really would like to do, so I would keep the momentum going in that direction. I also love your new house in Boston. Can't you keep it as a vacation/holiday home? |
WOW!!! Good Luck! |
Such a tough decision. I'm sure whatever happens will work out for the best in the end. After having moved twice in 3 months, I certainly feel your pain with packing/unpacking! Good luck! |
No news yet... Charlie's boss should get back to us by the end of the week...<sigh> time goes very slow (this week).
Lil Walty wrote: Boston is such an awesome city. How do the dogs adjust to moving? Heather, I love Boston! Maybe because it reminds me of a European city...or that we already have friends there....or maybe everything. Boni is better about moving, as moving to Chicago was his first move...Lumpi though stresses a lot. Since we got him, he moved from Columbia, SC to Dallas, then to Boston and then to Chicago. I feel sorry for him the most. Boni seems to be living in his own world where everything is just perfect. Deb, it's true, I would love to move home! BUT we weren't expecting this to happen so fast! We were ready to settle down in Boston for at least 5 years. I love that house...I would be sad to give it up. Lol. I wish we had enough money to keep it as a holiday home! Maybe we can suggest that to the company. |
