I would just make sure she is getting enough water to drink, and maybe a small fingerfull of corn syrup on her tongue might get things moving. |
Hmmm, i'll try that! Still nothing so far. |
Please keep a close eye on her and hopefully she'll pass what she ate. Unfortunately an xray sometimes cannot see through the tissue in the colon. If she starts to vomit, please get her back to the vet. Hopefully they suggested this? Did your vet offer any other suggestions what might be happening?
If the object already started passing to the colon then most likely she'll be okay, but sometimes it's difficult for an xray to see everything. I'm not a vet but had a similar situation with a cat of mine who ate a small hair band. My vet ended up having to do an exploratory surgery. |
How are things "going" Marley? |
well, she squeezed out a little poop. She seems ok, no vomitting, energetic and wants to eat. I know what she ate: a cat's mouse toy. We took one apart and it is made of fur and paper. So hopefully this will eventually get broken down in there somewhere. I was told to make sure she drinks a lot of water and give her wet food. Do I just get rid of all the cat's mice? Is about 2"long by 1" wide. I guess ists just waiting now, and see what happens. IF she gets worse, I will bring her back to the vet and ask him to do something. Thanks all. Its been hectic here with the new kitten and Mop giving us a heartattach with this blockage. Double Oy! |
fun stuff!
LOL Actually, it brings to mind the first day or second day that Sky was home. It was sooo funny... she started to try to have a poop, and she was pushing so hard her whole back end came up off the ground, I thought she was going to fall flat on her face! LOL |
I am glad to hear Mopsey is getting things moving. LOL
I hope she continues in that direction. We no longer get to have cat toys here. The dogs have either taken over the toy and it is now a dog toy or it was chewed up. The cats were not happy so we have compromised with lots and lots of cat nip and a laser light toy, oh and one of those turbo ball scratchers. Keep us updated on Mopsey. Stormi and co. |
Mulligan got into the trash and ate quite a bit of paper products and who knows what else... it seems to be making it's way back out, so to speak... |
If the doggie is truly straining they can end up with an anal prolapse....what's inside comes outside. So do consider this something to keep watching.
I have put Metamucil on doggie's food and served "white water" to get the extra moisture in the dog's stomach. (white water is mostly water with just enough milk to get the dog's attention) Start with 1 1/2 --2 cups worth, you don't want the dog to explode. As for Metamucil, about a tsp for per 10 lbs body weight up to 6 tsp max. There's also a doggie laxative called Laxatone. A pediatric Fleet enema is another possibility, but if the vet has already done this, I'd question doing another. Some may suggest mineral oil, I'd hesitate. Even several day's use will start to tie up mineral nutrients, also since the dog can't taste mineral oil, he may tend to inhale it, not swallow. I know it's strange, but we are all hoping your guy has a good dump soon! Also for those who have ignored the dog's rear end for awhile, do check. Dried dingleberries can cake over the opening preventing poop from coming out. |
update! She has POOPED!!!! All has come out! We are so releived! LOL Thanks for advice and good vibes! |
I'm so glad that things worked their way out for Mopo! I didn't want to post earlier because we had a terrible situation with one of our sheepies (Spencer). He had eaten something that must have been toxic and didn't survive the extraction surgery. Terrible. He was such a sweetie. He was my first sheepie and when we got him I thought for months that he was the cutest thing on 4 legs. Then I went to Grannie Annie's site and saw the pics of all the other sheepies and realized that they are ALL cute! ack! I wish I could adopt them all. But then Jamie would probably give me up for adoption! Anywho - glad that Mopo pulled through. I was really feeling for you! |
Oh, I'm so sorry about Spencer! Any sheepie loss is felt deeply through the community. My thoughts are with you.

Heather,
Spencer certainly was a cutie! HE reminds us a lot of our Jakester. Joan and I are wondering... is that a Chevy, like an Impala or a Cavalier or some such that he's (half) riding in? |
Spencer loved, as many dogs do, sticking his head out of the window when the car is zooming (25 mph) down road. Jamie and I call it coning because it head would turn in to a cone. He loved it. He'd pull his head back in the car and his hair would be all slicked back and that pink tongue would be happily popping up and down and he caught his breath. The picture you were asking about to was taken in our Taurus (which itself has also passed over the rainbow bridge). |

Marley, I'm sorry that I hadn't seen this earlier but I'm glad it all worked out for you! In the future, obstructions that cause problems will often result in vomitting - and if the vomitus is stool (poop) like - it's a real cause for concern and needs immediate attention. Hopefully, you'll never have to worry about it again! Kristen |
Yeah! Happy news. (I love a forum where people cheer when a dog poops.)
Sometimes ignorance IS bliss. Henry ate his harness: some of the webbing and the plastic buckle. He pooped the bright purple webbing the next day, and I assumed I missed the buckle poop or that he had eliminated it at doggy day care. Two months later (I am sure about the timing) he had a terrible night of throwing up and finally at about 3 am, he threw up the buckle. It was whole and undigested. Had I known, I would have been at the vet's getting xrays and taking her advice about extraction surgery. |
My great dane used to eat socks whole, and the reason I knew this was because whole, although discolored, socks were found in her "gifts" in the yard. LOL |
oohh, I am sorry about Spencer! What a cute picture of him! I am sure he is happy and healthy chasing butterflies and running through medows! |
Just got some great advice on dog constipation from our OES breeder. She said, "Go to the grocery store and buy a can of pumpkin (not the pie mix blend, just plain pumpkin). Give it to the dog 1 tablespoon several times a day. This is good to help get things moving along and also does double duty by helping to stop any diarrhea that you may see on future occasions. Pumpkin is a good thing to keep handy. When I open a can, I freeze any unused stuff in sandwich bags, so when needed in the future, I have the dosage already measured out."
I'm certain the dear woman forgot to suggest that a large apple-tini should be given the parent. Doing so will help reduce the anxiety brought on these difficult times! |
LOL Thanks all for your kind thoughts and good advice! I usually go to the vet first and ask quesitons later...LOL Many a times I say to myself "Why the hell did I just spent $160? I could of waited a day and it would of turned out ok". But, i am too scared to wait and see, so I end up flying to the vet if my furbabies sneeze. Ah, whacha gonna do? Too scared to lose any of them due to my ignorance. Anywho, she is doing great and she wasn't throwing up, so I knew that it wasn't TOO bad. However, if she didn't pass the blockage I would of gone back to the vet and asked him to do something else... We carved a pumpkin yesterday and Mopo had a few pieces of it...then she went out and found a cat poop for a snack. YEEEEK! I have to feed this pumpkin to them kittens, this is getting rediculous! lOL |
I have a pitbull puppy 5 month ate some of harness with part a buckle. She was pooping when my son walk her and he saw something hanging from her rear he had to wiggle out and there came the portion of harness missing not sure where the part of buckle is... this puppy eat everything in site.. she chew on CD disks, bags, socks,etc.... |
Guest, you need to keep a better eye on your puppy or keep him crated when you are not home. The things you are saying he has eaten can be a SERIOUS FATAL problem...Blockages are not funny...Please, try to keep him in your sight and keep him from eating these things... |
Yes please Ive just gone through a terrible scare with my 14 yr old red ,nose named Boo, Hes been so healthy and strong for a 14 yr old and now he seems to maybe have a blockage... He has eaten a beef bone and I don't think he has yet passed it the worst does not seem over yet...I am so worried although he seems to be feeling good running again and jumping and playing around ...But no solid poop yet... so please don't take these kind of things lightly... My dog could still not make it...and next time yours might not either! |
