Thank you to all who encouraged me to put my sadness aside and to go meet the sheepie. It has already been good for my soul. |

This has all the hallmarks an amazing story....
The back leg shaking may be due to pain -- either from the hips or perhaps that growth. I am assuming that you would recognize shaking just from excitement. Maybe that is showing up a little differently than you are used to seeing, and he may be somewhat frightened right now as well. Keep us informed!! |
So happy you have made a friend....Maybe it's fate....time will tell.keep us posted.... |
This is just really cool. |
Wow fantastic and great you went and introduced yourself.
Sorry about your sheepie too, maybe things happen for a reason with this one all of a sudden being next door. He sounds like a love bug. Maybe with just the back leg shake could be just subdued excitement or a bit of nerves & shyness with all the change on this sheepie at the moment. |
God Bless You for going next door. If nothing else, that sheepie will be conforted by someone who luvs him. |
I'm glad you went over there. |
I am glad you went over and checked things out. I'm sure your neighbors are glad you did too.
I have seen OES with the leg shake before - like the rear leg(s) are shivering. A particular one I am thinking of is also being shown. Please keep us posted! |
Everything happens for a reason..
Glad you went over to see him he sounds wonderful! |
wow what a story you are there for a reason,, keep us posted |
AWWWWWW, your post gives me goose bumps!!!!!! I don't really know what to wish for..... I certainly don't want to wish for the owner to not recover but I do want to wish for you to get the love s of a sheepie. SO I guess I will just wish that everything works out the way it's supposed to!!!! |
Glad to hear you went to visit. Who knows what may happen.
I met a lady (very attractive I might add) the other night who was leaving the restaurant and Obe and I happen to be outside taking a stroll around the property. She she came over and visited with Obe. She had to put hers down in July after 15 years. Needless to say there were some tears but she was so happy to hug a sheepie again. I told her anytime she wanted to come and visit she was more than welcome to. Funny that I read this post about you and the neighbor and then I meet this woman. I guess it never hurts to ask. |
My Barney has leg shakes whenever he's excited. Vet says nothing to worry about. He says the hips seem to be fine, though I've never had them xrayed. |
I have had my rescue boy, Sunny for a year. When I first picked him up he didnt do "wiggles" as you call them, I call it rump shaking. His back legs would shake and he would roll on this back with paws in the air. He was so scared! It took a few months, and Sunny is now happy and rump shaking all the time.
We are all in a place for a reason. I think your next door sheepie is there for a reason too! Glad you have a new friend. |
Our late boy Spencer had the "leg shake" thing too....we came to see it as a happy thing, since he only did it when he was EXCITED!
Im so glad you went over and talked to them! Im with Ginny...I hope what ever is meant to be, happens. |
That is a really nice story- I'm glad you found some comfort in your new sheepie neighbor.
Walter's leg shakes often for what seems to be no reason! But maybe you can visit again and encourage your neighbors to find out his medical history |
Bella has aback leg that shakes once in a while ,it usually starts when she first goes outside, vet says its nothing probably a little excited at first when she first gets out. |
First I am sorry to hear about the loss of your OES...I know what a bittersweet feeling it is to see another OES - on the one hand, it is a reminder of the "void" left behind with the passing of your OES, but on the other hand, it can be a happy reminder of what joy OESes can be. I am glad you visited your neighbours - who knows, they may need you to babysit the OES or help with the training....That might prove to be a good distraction too.
As for the shaking leg, another possibility is that it is some kind of muscle strain....akin to working your arms or legs too hard with weights at the gym which results in them shaking....If it persists, or if looks like something more than mere excitement, they should get it checked... |
Your post made me tear up . I'm so glad you went over there, that poor sheepie is probably scared and confused, maybe you're the antidote . The leg shaking may well be nothing, Luke has had a shaky rear leg for a long time and he's fine. All paws crossed for a happy ending for all...and that's 16 paws |
Ahhh! Your story brought tears in my eyes and brought up some memories. As Ginny said I can only wish that everything works out the way it's supposed to! |
Just an update...it is getting very cold here. It is suppose to be in the single digits, below zero, and snowy, icy. I called my neighbor today, and I told him that if he needed me to keep the sheepie, since I have a crate, baby gates, and all the gear one would need to deal with him indoors, that I would be happy to do so. He was grateful. He said that the dog was just too much dog for him, and they couldn't keep him inside, but they were worried about it getting cold outside. My husband and I walked over in the sleet and picked him up tonight. He immediately felt at home in our house. It is amazing the difference in this dog, just being in the house with us. I set up the crate in our bedroom, put a blanket in it, and covered it with a quilt. He has stuck his head in it a couple of times. He was really curious when my husband got in it. He peed and pooped in the house when he first came in, but I am hopeful that once he settles down that will improve. When he did it, I started making my no, no, and ahh, ahh, noises, and he seemed to respond to those. We introduced him to the cat most likely to remain calm around him, and he was so polite to her. I don't think the kitties will be a problem, but they are in exile in another part of the house, until I am sure. My neighbors told me to enjoy him, and I told him that if they or his owner needed him back to give us a call. We are having a good time with him, and I am so happy to be able to make a difference for this dog. |
Warmth! Yay! |
Yay!!! Fantastic all around! This makes me soooo happy! |
That is so wonderful! |
That is good news. Poor dog - he must be so stressed out from all the changes. |
This makes my heart warm. I'm so glad you went over and took the dog as I'm sure the dog is glad to have some attention too!!!! |
Thank you for doing what was really hard and painful for you! The universe aligned for a happy ending! I'm sure you are making such a huge difference for that sheepie. Sounds like he's been through a lot and I bet he'll settle in and won't have accidents in the house. I'm sure he was just scared. I hope he gives you comfort! I'm sure your angel is smiling down on you! |
YIPPIE!!! Great news!!! |
To me (as well as to most of you, I am sure), dogs in general are not JUST "dogs". But on top of that, a sheepie has got to be at the top of the dog hierarchy in terms of greatness. To think that a sheepie was not happy or comfortable or loved as much as he surely deserves to be, just absolutely breaks my heart.
In a time when good things are rarely publicized and in a season when extra love is both given and required, it is more than heart warming what you have done. Whether he stays with you for a week or for the rest of his life, you are making a huge impact on him. Imagine his confusion about the recent events in his life? Having a cozy home, being INSIDE with people who love him and understand him, is, I am certain, such a blessing for him. Thank you from all of us, but most of all, from your new sheepie faced friend!!!!! |
Maybe you got an early Christmas present.
Enjoy every minute you have with him I hope you get to keep him!! |
Another update on my new sheepie friend. He has been with us for about two week now. I met his owner last week. He is doing better and out of the hospital, and he told me that he has to move, and he is not sure he can keep his sheepie in his new place. He said that he would give him to me if he couldn't keep him, and that he would let me know by Christmas. He said that the growth on his leg was not a malignant tumor, but I am not sure exactly how he knows this. He was kind of vague on whether a vet had said this or not. He said he would need his shots after the first of the year. Evidently, this sheepie has a famous grandfather. I could tell that he had better confirmation (if that's what it is called in dogs) than Sheila, my previous sheepie.
As for the sheepie himself, he is the sweetest guy! He seems to like it here, and my husband told me that when I leave for work he stands in the window and howls. His back legs do not shake as much as they did when he first came to us. I am less and less concerned about it. It appears to be the way he wiggles to show excitement. I think he has control over it. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas! |
Well, that sounds like a good report. Nice to know his owner is better and out of the hospital. And you may get a sheepdog for Christmas. |
What a great Christmas story , thanks for sharing |
We really hope this works out for you and that your wish come true, thanks for everything you have done for this lovely sheepie. People like you and your husband are angels. Love from all at Tikki-ti-boo |
Thank you for offering your home to this poor guy. He is confused, wondering about his first boss, but also fitting in nicely to your home. While I'd like to see this guy back with is owner, I'd be equally joyful if he comes to you. What a Christmas present that would be! |
Hi,
My eyes are welling up with tears as I've been following the story since your posted about your beloved Sheila and then about this poor boys plight. I think Sheila has a hand in this from the bridge and thus helping another of her kind, you are healing in your grief. Even if things don't work out with this boy and the owner does take him back, I think it opened up your heart to see that there are needy sheepies everywhere that would love to call your place home. I think Sheila would be pleased that you are never replacing her but honoring her. She is probably smiling down at you both. When my Shaggy passed several years ago I was filled with grief and heard about Panda through this forum. Only two weeks after she passed, too soon to get another, but Panda's situation was desperate and so I took him in. He helped with the grieving and I healed by helping another of their kind. I always felt there was something at play as there appears to be in your case as well. This story touched me. When you think of the dynamics involved, what were the chances of a neighbor having a sheepie on their porch? It must have been Christmas magic that made you look out and notice that poor soul in the cold. His back legs shaking probably had a lot to do with that as even a bit of joint pain will be ecentuated in the cold weather. What kind and gentle hearts you and your husband had to make the offer and bring him in from the cold into your warm house. This seems all meant to be. I wish you all the best Marianne |
My fingers are crossed that you get to keep this Sheepie!
I'm glad his owner is well again but I hope that he is yours to stay! |
what a great xmas story hope it works out for you nothi g like having a sheeepie in the house for xmas |
