I don't know if this will help but my Aunt and Uncle have a cocker and Jerry has had the surgery done to his ears, he can hear a little. He is a happier dog now that they are not tugging and cleaning his ears everyday. It was $1500.00 CAD each ear.
Good Luck! |
Sorry to hear you're having problems!
Regarding allergies, have you and your vet totally eliminated a food allergy? In other words, did you take her off the dog food and start feeding her meat (or raw meat) to see if it was the grains in the dog food? And, of course, if you already feed her BARF (Bones and Raw Food), then disregard this post! Going through Google, I hit upon an informative article on ear infections (they say that hypothyroidism can be a cause -- I never knew this!). http://www.bestfriends.org/members/health/canineears1.htm Hope this helps! There just *has* to be something that can be done -- besides putting her down! My heart goes out to you... Suzanne |
P.S.
In my very, very humble opinion, if it absolutely comes down to an operation that leaves the dog deaf and putting her down, I say go for the operation! A deaf dog can be trained. And with the internet, you can get in touch with people who have deaf dogs and get support from them. There are a few on the OES list I subscribe to. Here's another article on ear infections that also talks about an ear canal obliteration. http://www.pethealthcare.net/html/body_canine_ear_infections.html Again, in my very, very humble opinion, I would try feeding natural foods (such as chicken) to eliminate a grain allergy, if you haven't already. Talk to your vet! Suzanne |
Thanks for the info, all. As for the allergies, we already have her on BARF. They thought it might have been the "wet" food (or meat) we were feeding her that was adding moisture to her ears. We have spoken with the vet, and he agrees that perhaps an ear canal obliteration is what is best. Now he is finding a specialist, and we are finding a financier. LOL. Well, thanks again for the great help. |
I hope everything works out! Please keep us posted, if you have a chance!
