An odd smell from the anus area. Could it be Anal Glands?
Does anyone have any ideas? Since he is on some medication for his hip dysplasia, I want to make sure nothing is going on internally. |

| it could be anal glads or in pandas case a while back, she had a boil that was half in and half out of her rectum...she was doing that butt walk thingy....
You will know if the butt doesnt look right...it should look pink and puckered...if it looks swollen and dark, Id take the puppers to the vet. |

jcc9797, anal gland expression smells a bit like a tin can of tuna  They are supposed to express when they go poop, but they don't always get everything out. Fozzie expresses all the time on ME when sitting on the couch. I keep a towel on the couch now and lay it on my in a rush when I see him coming. He backs up to me, feels my shoulder, sits down, and does it. He does go for a little squeeze about once a month. It's really icky smelling stuff! |

Every time I look at this thread I think, hmmmm...  If theyre calling it an ODD smell, as opposed to a horrible, disgusting stench from hell, it cant be an anal gland thing.  |

I felt around his anus, and don't feel any "grapes", so I am guessing that is not the problem. We go to swim class tomorrow, I'll just ask the vet then. Thanks though! |
