The only reason I would even think of this is that my neighbor has a 14 year old husky and she started breathing hard and kind of gasping and they took her to the vet. It turned out to be congestive heart failure. They have her on meds and she's doing better but she'll have it for the rest of her life.
I'm not trying to be grim or negative, it just made me think of her. I'm no vet and no medical expert. I hope, hope, hope your girl is just having vivid dreams about chasing bunnies! |
i have the same thought about her heart going on her .. (that is a mother 's vibe) |
Luke is 10.5 and I have noticed his breathing is heavier but not to the point he is laboring. With him I think it's the fact that he has trouble getting up without help and expends more energy than he's used to, |
Hi,
Shaggy also developed that heavy breathing while sleeping and the occasional coughing (sounds like they are clearing their throats)...aaaak sound. It also was due to her heart at her age. She did live to 15 however. Please don't think that's what Daytona has, as I realize the post (mine included) have suggested that it may be heart problems. There could also be other factors as well, sometimes worms cause dogs or cats to do that as well. Our minds have the ability of always thinking the worse and to put your mind at ease - perhaps a visit to the vets. Sending warm thoughts to Daytona. Marianne |
I have to agree with Butterscotch. We had a black lab who was 14 and had congestive heart disease. He had the same symptoms & the vet put him a few different meds. He lived to the ripe old age of 16. He had a few small issues... like if he got too excited or walked too far, he would really have a problem with his breathing. Also, because of the lasix, he had to go to potty ALL of the time!
But, the vet assured us that he was not suffering and we were thankful for everyday we had with him! The whole thing is to get it diagnosed before it gets too bad! Good luck, and ket us know how you make out. |
My first thought before I read Jill's post was CHF. Could be easily treated with a diuretic, I'd see my Vet. |
I too thought immediately of CHF but also pain. Discomfort is often shows as panting and heavier night breathing. Vet check time. |
going to take her in will keep u posted!! |
