Nipping Our Clothes

My puppy is now 4 and half months old. He recently started to nip our clothes and sometimes he won't let go when we tell him "no." He'll growl when we pull away from him. Any suggestions on how to stop this behavior?

:P Harvey now 9 months old still has an interest in clothes especially on the line in our garden. His interest however has diminished as he gets older he always managing to do something i'm not impressed with but hes so funny. Just when you think we're over the puppy stage he reminds me we're far from it.
They recommend you turn away and ignore your dog when he jumps up.

We went through that stage as well, and with that advice given by every trainer we met.............my husband had a hole in EVERY pair of good jeans and some of his new Christmas sweaters.

I WAS PISSED as I did not just stand there ignoring Yuki as she tore into my clothes like my husband. I also didn't have any holes in my clothes! I simply pushed her down and said NO! .....followed by ignoring her.

It's a common puppy stage that should pass if you're consistent.
Chauncey also would grab & pull clothes. We realized that he wanted to play, and tug is one of his favorite activities. When he starts we have him get a rope toy and then spend some time playing with him.
Swapping is a great idea. When he pulls on your clothes, say firmly "No" and offer something better, like a rope and then play with him for a little bit so he will learn that pulling is fine but he can only pull the rope not your clothes.

When he growls, if that a play growl or a "mean" growl? My older dog growls when he plays but it's just a play growl.
These can be the most vocal dogs at playtime. I don't think I have ever had one before Nigel who didn't talk or growl while playing...It's a funnt breed.
