Welcome, Simon!

Bella and I are proud to announce that we have adopted Simon, a 2 1/2 year old boy from Southwest OES Rescue today! Pics to come soon. Poor boy came from a home that the family had to forclose on. He has been crated most of his life, so is not well socialized and has had little training. He is also not housebroken, we found out today. He is a little afraid of the doggie door so far, but I'm sure he will learn to adapt soon, with Bella's help. He is very, very sweet, loves pets and loving. He is dirty and has a bad haircut, stained red from a bandana I understand he used to wear in his first home. He and Bella are getting along famously, although Bella is making sure he understands she is the boss here! We will be working on housebreaking, doggie door, and will enroll him in an obedience class as of Dec 8. His original name was Money (his sister, who has been adopted, was named Cash, is that not awful?). We've been working on the name game a little today to help him learn his new name, but mostly just giving him lots of love and letting him explore his new home. I just know JoJo is watching from the bridge and is happy we were able to give another boy a chance.

Mary!!! What a great thing to do!!!! Adopting Simon and giving him a chance for a loving, happy, healthy life..... (I love his name!!) Can't wait for pictures..
Oh that is so wonderful that you adopted Simon...he is a lucky sheepie boy and I am sure that JoJo is giving you the "great job" sign.
That is wonderful news. Simon- that's a good name. :D (My rescue basset is Simon - and he is wonderful.)

Good luck with all the changes - it sounds like he has a lot of adjusting to do. Bella will set him straight, I'm sure. :)
So happy for you, Mary, and your family. Simon is a great name. He is one lucky boy! Will be watching for pics.
I'm doing cartwheels over here after reading your post!!!! Well not really but I'd like to!

I'm thrilled to hear another deserving sheepie has found a home and couldn't ask for a better one. I can't wait to hear of upcoming Bella and Simon adventures and yes of course pics!

Congrats to you!

Marianne
YaaaaaaaaAAAAAY Simon!

Welcome!
Awesome! He sounds great!

I'll tell you, I really got a laugh out of the names Cash and Money. Were his previous owners rap stars?
Lol, no I don't think they were rap stars but they I heard they spent time in Las Vegas and that's where the original names came from.

We went to the park tonight. I wasn't sure how he'd do but he was awesome! He ran so hard he outran most of the dogs there and played really well, you'd never know he wasn't socialized. I think it may be the first time he's ever had a chance to just be a dog. He's learning his new name. I am on an every hour schedule to get him to go outside to potty. He has learned to come in the doggie door but not to go out it yet. We will stay on an every 2 hour schedule until I have to go back to work Monday am so hopefully he'll get the idea by then. He's already attached to me. I can't wait to get some pics so you can see him.

Mary
So exciting!!!! Crograts on your new boy Simon!!!!
Looking forward to photos!

If they had a third dog would it be "debit"
Congrat's on his new and improved life.....Thanks, Kathy & Chauncey
Well done for giving Simon a new life. I know what you are feeling just now as we took on our Ollie from the RSPCA here in UK on Friday (23rd).We had a rescue dog before and they are worth every moment you spend with them.
Congratualtions Mary!!! How wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see pictures!!
simon is one lucky boy lets see pics!!
Hey!!

Stop knocking the money theme!!! Mad Dog's registered name is M's Mad Money in deference to her Dad - Q's The Buck Stops Here (a name I happen to love and have adopted as my motto  ) And Cash was the call name of one of my all time favorite Malamutes.

Actually, Mad Dog's registered name was supposed to be M's Mad About You, because I was and still am, but her breeder/co-owner intervened, even though the money theme made my skin crawl at the time.

Doesn't matter, they name themselves eventually and Simon is a wonderful name. He may be undersocialized, but you don't hit the dog park with that kind of success without a basic, sound temperament, which makes life so much easier.

Congrats to you and the boy :D

Congrats on your new addition - what a great life this dog now has with your family. The dog park is the perfect test of socialization - Simon has certainly hit the ground running and playing. Patch lives for our treks to the dog park, she absolutely loves it. The foster I had last winter also loved it - I don't think she had ever been socialized and ran out there and made friends with every dog having the time of her life. Again, congratulations! :D :rimshot:
Congrats Mary!! That's so great!
Congrats! :D
This is awesome- I love happy stories like this! It sounds like Simon is a total sweetheart and I'm so glad he found your family!

Give him (and Bella) a hug from me
Congrats to you and your family on the family member. Congrats to Simon on his second chance with a loving family.
We're still doing really well. He has learned to go in and out the doggie door, but he hasn't figured out that he's supposed to GO outside yet. We've been taking him outside regularly and when he goes he gets lots of praise and loving, but today he still pooped and peed in the house. He seems to be a smart doggie so I'm sure he'll get it, but I was hoping he'd get it before I went back to work tomorrow, not happening. I don't want to crate him when I go to work since he spent his whole life in a crate but I may have to. Any suggestions?

Mary
Can you leave them both outside in the yard while you are at work? That is assuming the weather is ok, there is shelter, and you have a fenced in yard.
Congratulations on simon, wonderful news. :D
What about a baby gate and pop him in a bathroom or laundry while you are at work, with a mat, water bowl and some toys if you don't want to crate him and that way any accidents, if any, will be on tiled or some floor surface other then carpet if he can't hold on.

Best wishes with the new man. :D

Patience! I remember Patch was housetrained when I got her at a year old, but she had to learn my schedule - it was frustrtating. I had wood floors in the great room so would baby gate her in the great room where she could still see out the front bay window. The first six months of a new dog is the most trying and frustrating. One day I came home and found Patch had gone on the floor and then walked through it all over the room - I couldn't blame her because she was thrown in a new environment, but thought I'd lose my mind - LOL. She learned quickly, but I can still remember the trying moments. Simon will learn especially since you have a doggie door. And baby gates are great. Good luck.
Congratulations on your new addition :D Simon sounds like a lucky boy finding you to love him .
Julie .
Congratulations! Can't wait for the pictures!
Good job for helping Simon. I am sure he will be kept in line by Bella.

Good Job.
Congrats on your new sheepie :D :D
Congrats, Mary on the adoption of your new sheepdog boy.
It's great to hear that Simon has his very own home for the holidays!
Thanks for giving another rescue dog a new life. Those of us not in the position to do it thank you. Looking forward to learning more and seeing Simon. :D
It is always nice to know that there are more loved OES in Arizona. Welcome.
