Maxmom wrote: Okay our beautiful new boy (he is 5 months old) seems to have some really stinky stinky gas! We are feeding him Nutro Ultra Puppy food, which is what the breeder we got him from had been feeding the puppies as well. I saw at PetSmart they have some "gas be gone" like pills. Has anyone used anything like this, or have any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi, at five months old you probably need to be switching to an adult food. His farts may be telling you telling you he's getting too much protein. Just switch to Nutro Ultra regular or adult or whatever they call it - do they have a large breed variety? I know they look like puppies, act like puppies etc at that age. But, as a large breed, better to nix the super high protein sooner rather than later in terms of uniform growth. His joints will thank you later. Pictures of His Royal Gassiness???? Kristine |

Yes the food may be too rich, or he may just be getting too much.
Nutro does make a adult large breed - I believe in a chicken and also a lamb & rice. We have used the lamb and rice at our house with good success. because Chewie works hard (he does cart racing and weight pulls, in addition to a bunch of other stuff ) he needs the extra calories. The Ultra puppy is actually what I supplement him with. We had GAS!!! during the transition, so I know your pain! And yes, we really love pictures! (welcome) |
Thanks, I will get his next bag adult....the puppy food I have is large breed so I am sure they have an adult large breed. I will get a picture of him up tomorrow sometime, I happen to think he is the most adorable dog I have ever seen But I am guessing that is a new "mom" thing! He still has his puppy coat...it is so cool to watch him slowly starting to turn from black to grey! |
i am still watching Obe at 15 months do this coat transition. driving me crazy!!! |
We are having a major double Gas problem. Both dogs!!!! I think it's the turkey and stuffing they have been sharing for the past 4 days. Besides waiting this out and not feeding them any more goodies, what can we do, besides wear gas masks!!!! |
Oh, no! I shouldn't laugh, but...Yes, you basically have to wait it out and invest in gas masks if needed.
Two of mine have been gassy as well, and I was just thinking that was odd, they haven't gotten anything different and...? Then I remembered the advent of the malodorous state of affairs seemed to coincide with my Dad visiting. Lord knows what he gave them when he thought I wasn't looking. They're not bad enough to need gas masks to be around them, but it's definitely noticable. Funny <?> thing is that I first noticed it when I went to cut their nails. Both of them, as I went to cut the nails on their rear feet last night cut loose at just that moment. THANKS! Hang in there. Kristine |
