I have notice that when Heart is stressed, her paws sweat. We were at an agility seminar with the OES Club, St. Louis and Heart was obviously nervous. There were about 6 other sheepies there and none of the others were making paw prints on the black rubber floor....except my Is this because she is a puppy???? Is this common??? Will she grow out of it??? To be honest, I would much rather have a PAW-drooling OES than a MOUTH-drooling OES............ |

I don't have any suggestions but I have heard of paw sweating. Perhaps it will improve as she gets more comfortable around the other dogs. |
I don't know that it's all that common in OES, but I am wondering if perhaps it runs in lines because Mad did it and one of her daughters does it. And the only place I've noticed it is in agility class because they will leave their paw marks on the matting.
The first time we noticed Mad was leaving paw marks someone told me she was stressed or nervous, but I know my dog and she was just really excited (loved agility more than life). Her daughter is the same type - high drive. Could be a coincidence. Because a friend who showed one of her sons said he'll leave sticky pawprints in his crate when he's excited (e.g. there is a bitch in season in the house) And he is NOT high drive. Except when it comes to girls In practical terms, you'll probably start noticing it less. But bring a towel with you to class anyway and dry off her paws periodically because having moist paws can lead to her slipping more easily and also, if she's really fast, some paw "burn". Kind of like carpet burn - don't know how else to explain it. Happens very rarely though. Mostly it's the slipping you worry about. It's not a big deal. Kristine |
Val,
I noticed that as well. I only saw a little with Chewy. Maybe it was heat or the floor materials? or maybe she was just so excited to see the other dogs? I know my hands and feet sweat when I meet new people or get excited about something I am thinking about doing. I also know for some people this is alot worse than others. Maybe because she was a puppy she was just really excited to see all the other dogs? |
It is really normal. Dogs sweat in their feet, so any of the normal reasons for sweating will cause those wet pawprints. (Heat, excitement, nervous, etc.) Just like people, some sweat more than others.
Chewie is a paw sweat-er too . He was even leaving sweat prints on the cold pavement this weekend at the weight pull. We always get lots of "my your dog has really BIG feet" comments. |
yup, panda gets sweaty feet too....noticed them on the brick patio this morning..... |
Thanks you guys....................I was kind of getting worried.....Not any more.... |
