He's got a big oven, and there will be a big 22 pound turkey in it. So I guess cooking the turkey in the crockpot is out, but any other ideas? |

YES!!! I made this to try out before I actually make it Thurs, and it's delicious. Saves room in the oven!! So easy!
THE STUFFING! * 1 C butter * 2 C chopped onion * 2 C chopped celery * 1/4 C chopped fresh parsley * 12 oz sliced mushrooms * 12 C dry bread cubes * 1 t poultry seasoning * 1 1/2 t sage * 1 t thyme * 1/2 t dried marjoram * 1 1/2 t salt * 1/2 t pepper * 2.5 C chicken broth, or as needed * 2 eggs, beaten 1. Melt butter in skillet over medium heat. Cook onion, celery, mushroom & parsley, stir a lot. 2. Spoon cooked vegetables over bread cubes in a very large mixing bowl. Season with poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, marjoram, salt&pepper. Pour in enough broth to moisten & mix in eggs. Put in slow cooker and cover. 3. Cook on low for 4-8 hrs. If you need more broth, add it, or if it appears soggy... leave the lid off or cook on high the last hour. It is dependent on the bread you use. The hard bread cubes (store bought) are best and absorbent but may require closer to 6C of broth (but start off w/amount suggested). I thought about adding 1lb of JimmyDean sausage next time. |
Coo--el! I have a small oven so am looking for time and space saving ideas. I have 2 crock pots.......they will be used for use now.
Actually Ron, your friend could get a tabletop roaster and cook the bird in that while the oven plays host to the more important part of the meal.....the pies!! |
