Heart does that.....
She also follows soooo close she is constantly stepping on my heels...she doesn't nip my feet, she steps on my feet... She also will take a bone to me and prop it against my leg and use me as a brace so she can gnaw on it.... |
Shon, Valerie's dog did this to her at the dog park and shattered her knee. |
Ron thanks for the insight forgot about Vals accident. Wont be mean anymore. |
Shon.....My Carmella did this to me once at the park. She was walking along side me at first...then ran back to see where Andy and my husband were.....they were quite a few yards behind me. Anyway....I turned around to keep walking.....and before I knew it.....BAM....Carmella ran full force into the back of my knees and down I went. Luckily...I didn't get hurt and landed on the grass. I had to laugh a little tho (after the fact of course)....If you knew Carmella and how bouncy and crazy she can be.....she just kept on running and playing like she didn't have a care in the world. I'm not a small person so I dout she "didn't" see me in her path... She hasn't done it again tho.....thank goodness!! |
Boni never did anything like this but Lumpi my lab/greyhound mix did...and this is how he first broke one of my fingers. It was a big and bad fall on wet grass. At the moment I just quickly looked around to see if anybody was looking and then rushed home.
Second time Lumpi broke my finger was worse (a couple of months later!). His leash got caught on my engagement ring and my rings had to be cut off at the emergency. That was very painful and sad. |
Suggestion for the would be "fetchers". Check out AKC for you local obedience training club and get into obedience training for Novice and Open. It's a lot of fun and in the process you'll teach the dog to stay sitting in the heel position while you throw he object, run after it when you give the "fetch" command, return with it to a sitting position in front of you until you take it from him, then on command, return to the sit-stay at the heeling position. Nothing more beautiful than watching the dog retrieve it over a 30" high jump. |
Ahh I can't wait to get Rufus to training classes. He runs into us too, at full speed, head down. Or he THROWS the ball at us and is running to catch it before you even pick it up |
Hello,
I currently have two Old English Sheepdogs and neither one will play fetch. If I throw something they watch it drop and look at me like "you don't really think I am going to get that do you?" |
I've only had one sheepie play fetch As for running into you, yes they do. Body slams are part of their herding instinct. Obedience while young will curb this.....teaches them to go around you.
I've learned to watch when they get into this mindless mode and prepare myself to quickly divert their motion or step aside......not as easy for me to do as it was a few decades ago |
My dogs love fetch. Of my 3, only 2 ever bring the ball back. Daisy is never allowed to get the ball, she's the baby of the family. Frank brings the ball back with determination and Daphne gives it up when she's ready. The will ONLY play fetch with tennis balls. Daphne's next favorite game is 'I got the ball' 'do you see me, I got the ball' 'I still have the ball' it's me Daphe, with the ball' She always wins. |
