Mexico and places south in which to retire

:D Hi All! I have heard that Mexico and some places south may be affordable (and safe?) locations in which to retire. I am exploring possibilities. I cope less well with cold than I used to which was never very good. Nothing may come of this but ... :o

Hey Lynda,

If you move down there ..I'd miss you. We must get together soon for dinner!

One member who would have knowledge of the best retirement places in Mexico is Saulmr, but I haven't seen him on the forum for a while.

Lynda,
I'm on MY way down to San Miguel de allende tomorrow at noon to check out just that! I know there is a huge dog show community full of expats there. My friends have been bugging me for 4 yeras now to come so off I go for 5 days............

I'll give ya the report when i get back. Generally as a whole I LOVE mexico and the people. But, this is a different sort of trip.... no dogs and not to the FCI shows either! Going to see if i want to move down too. It should be interesting........

Lynda,

A lot of people from Southern California retire in Baja California, like Rosarita Beach and Ensenada. They are beach towns and close enough to the US that you can cross the border pretty quickly, but have all the advantages of living in Mexico...
:D I think I'm coming unglued! I looked at this thread and thought"Gee, that looks interesting! I was wondering the same thing!" then I remembered, it was my thread. :bulb: Thanks for the info and I am grateful for all replies. I'm familiar with Rosarita and Ensenada: visited a few years ago. :lmt:I'm in the Okanagan right now, Marianne and will call on my return! 8)
Lynda, If you are open to other places check out this web site.

Believe it or not that is how I first found Franklin Tennessee where I live now ! :D

Hahaha!! I've done that before too. There is a website called "Pick-a-prof" where you can read reviews on professors before you pick your school schedule. I was reading a review on a teacher I have now and thought, "Wow, I totally agree with this person!!"....then I looked at it and saw that it was my review I left when I had that professor for a different class a year ago! (I guess it's better than disagreeing with yourself!!)

As for retirement in the warm weather... TX is always nice! :D (Galveston is not very pretty though...)

We're they on the beach or on your finger? Heheh
When we went on our cruise my husband wanted to move to Mexico.

I'm sure if you google Homes/real estate in Mexico you'll get a ton of info. I watched the show House Hunters and they were showing homes in Cabo San Lucas for sale with a lady from the U.S. buying there. Her price range was $250,000-$350,000 US dollars. One house was 3000 Square feet with a pool and a cute room/office and terrace type thing at the top with views. Another house was in the "Beverly Hills" of Cabo San Lucas and was somewhere between 2000-3000SF but needed work for about $350,000 on a double lot. And the third house was brand new in that price range. I forget the particulars.

Always exciting to dream of exotic locations.
