I SWEAR I AM NOT GOING TO BUY SO MUCH THIS YEAR!!!! I SWEAR! So far, I've bought my mother in law a roll basket, that is 1 piece of wood spiraly cut (does that make sense?) and it lays flats, til you lift the handle, and it rises into a basket. I bought my daughter a silver bracelet. Tony, the first season of X-files. Keira, a new collar with a Jewish star and special cookies. Pirate, cookies and a stuffed dreidel. And for them to share, a stuffed bone that says, "Kosher". (Thank goodness for Target!) I don't have any idea what to get my son or his girlfriend. So...I'm off and running! (Why does this come around so often, and so quickly?) |
|
I hear you!! I asked my kids about a month ago for their suggestions and so far have only gotten 3 suggestions! But I did buy those suggestions and a few other things I just happened to see.
Let the shopping begin!!! |
sounds like youre off to a good start....do you give one gift per day per person for chanakah??? girlfriends always like something personal...find out what she really likes...one year my mother in law (whom we all know i dont get along with) actually did good..she got me an engraved tape measure...i thought that was small, not too sentimental, but nice..... |
Last year we got her a silver necklace, an adorable matching knit hat and gloves (for winter) and a Bert's Bee sampler. Never did I think she would still be around this year!!! She's a nice girl, but not quite right for him. (Do I sound like Jewish mother or what?). Since Tony is Catholic, we celebrate the holidays together. I've never gone crazy for Chanakah, but since Christmas got involved, Tony's pulled me off the deep end...and its become a big deal. I personally, think the kids birthday's are more important. So...I'm trying to bring it back to reality. Plus, they really aren't kids anymore! Son is 23, daughter is 21. I'm hoping to get them both one nice gift and some little silly things. |
Hey! Just because kids are grown up doesn't mean that we don't like to get presents too!! |
They'll get gifts! Just not Ghostbuster Firehouses, and Barbie Ski Lodges anymore!!!!! (Hey! I'm an old coot, and I love to get gifts too!) |
I'm excited to start too. EVERY YEAR I say I'm going to start early. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha |
I didn't even realize it was coming up so quickly! Ugh! Stress! |

I hope your kids and family don't come to the forum and read what they are going to get from you!

Finished? I think I have 2 presents bought. |
Ok...son and his girlfriend are taken care of!! We got them tickets to the Blackhawks/Avs hockey game! They are both hockey fans, and my son is a Colorado Avs fan. Whew...done...now to pick up a few little things. Merry Christmas to us all! |

It may not be Thanksgiving, but I'm not shopping for Christmas! I'm shopping for Chanukkah!!! And it starts Dec 4th. So....I'm not really all that effecient! |
Good luck to not overspending!!!! I do every year even when I'm careful with EACH gift!! Too many dang people!!!
I finished everyone but parents in October. If my nutty SIL was going to send out gifts in Sep, I said that's my excuse to get it done with too. Besides, half of the gifts on our wishlist goes up in price WEEKLY!!! A $20 Wiggles guitar is now almost $80 on Amazon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, that's my excuse. |
i've got to take most of mine back to the uk when i go on the 16th nov so i needed them bought so my family in the uk has them for christmas
zoe and einy |
I'm about half done I use my shows as Christmas shopping opportunities, and since we are on a pretty tight budget, I do as much "bartering" as I can!
Scott and I decided to do a gourmet food theme for our Christmas with his family, so I traded handpainted ornaments for beautiful gift baskets from a couple who do homemade birch syrup, jams, jellies and birch candy. Scott made arraignments with The Alaska Oyster Co. to pick up a bushel of fresh oysters right before we leave for Fairbanks, and we'll add in some of Scott's own homemade vinegars and honey mead. I'm still stumped on my family's gifts...I guess I'll have to see what kinds of cool stuff is available at my next show! |
It's not Christmas shopping to me if it isn't Christmas Eve...or if I'm REALLY on top of things, Christmas Eve Eve |
Now ***THAT*** would make me crazy! |
I love the pressure of it all. It's like school. I was a much better crammer for a midterm or final or writing a paper than spreading it out and doing it the right way. |

Do any of you do the day after Thanksgiving shopping madness? |
debcram wrote: Do any of you do the day after Thanksgiving shopping madness?
No, but we do day after Christmas sale shopping at the Crate and Barrell....and the ladies there get pretty ruthless. I don't think I would ever venture out to do real shopping on the day after T-Day...especially the be there at 3am shopping . Sometimes we head out in the afternoon, but by then the hard-core shoppers are gone |
I won't do it. No bargin is great enough. Last year, my daughter and sister in law went up to the Kenosha Prime outlet at midnight. We are 25 minutes away, but the traffic was so crazy, it took them over 2 hours to get there! |
Oh yes yes yes! Black Friday has been a tradition, even when not feeling 100%.
Last year I scooped a new Laptop for $300, and a couple of emachines and another laptop for my brother's family and my dad. The year before my brother and I both got 19" LCDs for $160 a great price then. Last year we set up chairs and a portable propane heater to spend the night and it wasn't very cold, but it was lightly drizzling all night. |
Ughh... I will never wait until the night before to gift-wrap and get last minute gifts. The first year I dated Mr. J ........we were forced to do that since he procrastinated on his part, and we nearly broke up!!!!!!!!!! Would have stunk since I got a promise ring the next day.
I was up ALL night wrapping his crap and since I was still at a stage where I wanted to impress his family, there was no way I was going to leave it to him. He'd bring all the gifts in a garbage bag with the price tags. |
Oh, no there is no way I would ever go shopping after T-Day! Nope. I like it when the stores are empty... (I mean not too many people.) This is why I love to shop on the internet. |

I participate....but as a seller, not a buyer! We always spend Thanksgiving in Juneau, since the set up for the Juneau Public Market (which runs Black Friday through Sunday) is on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. There are literally people lined up around the block of the convention center where its held on Friday before we open! Its a madhouse....so packed you can barely move. |
My Mom, sisters, and I are always up and at the stores by 5am on Black Friday! I hate the crowds but love the challenge of getting to the good stuff first. That sounds truly awful.......I think I inherited it, Mom was at Walmart at 7am Sunday to get a Nintendo Wii for my niece and nephew, she heard a rumor they may get one or two in |
I forgot it was called Black Friday. I'm usually recovering from a ton of people on Thanksgiving to give a hoot. Hmmm....this year we aren't very many people, and my daughter and I have Friday to ourselves. Hmmmm...oh the damage we could create! I better think this through better. |

THANK YOU!!!! I live only 5 minutes from a mall so I usually stop down there for a little while because the sales are so good. The crowds are usually so horrendus that I can't take it for too long. Nothing like that good old Christmas spirit on Black Friday!! Why do people act like heathens in order to celebrate the holidays? |
