Crate training the new dog

I recently rescued Parker from Tennessee and I've been putting off the crate training, but now I can't put it off any longer. He is the best dog in the world when we're all at home, but the chewing starts when we are not at home. He hasn't been so bad until yesterday. We've had him for about three weeks now.
I keep him and my OES in the basement when we're not at home. Yesterday Parker chewed up one of the cushions on my couch (he's never touched the couch before), he got into my papers (I thought these were out of reach) and he chewed up the sheet on my bed. It's time to teach him to be in a crate!!!
I bought the extra large crate today. (he's mostly a Great Pyrenees with some OES in him) My question is, do I put my crate trained OES in a crate also? She hasn't been crated for a couple of years because she behaves when home without supervision. Will it be easier to crate train Parker if Butters is in a crate next to him? I know Butters wont mind to go in a crate again, she's super easy going.

Thanks in advance for any of your advice!

When Heart came, she immediately went into the crate....

Pearl and Cos have not been crated for a very long time so I did not even consider crating them. I crate until they are trustworthy...

Heart was left out, by accident last week...my husband thought I put her in...I thought he had...we left for about 4 hours and when we came home and she greeted us...........

ohhhhhhhhhh!!! I was scared to see what damage she did. BUT nothing was touched!!!

I was just lucky.

She is still being crated.
When I brought China home I did not even consider crating Violet. Violet had not gotten into any trouble in a long time so I didn't feel the need. At night when I would put China's crate in the bedroom, as soon as China was put in it Violet would lay down next to it and push herself against the crate and China would lay up against the crate and Violet. It was so sweet to see. The are older now so no need to crate either.
I never crate trained my older dog and I did crate trained Boni. Now, when we leave the house, he goes in his crate, he gets a Kong, we close the door while our older dog is allowed to roam around the house...when he finishes with his Kong he goes to our bed and sleeps until we come home.

So, crate training one dog doesn't have to affect the other dog at all.
Thanks for the advice!! :cheer:
