When I was 11 or 12 my family went to NY. We went to see the Broadway show, Camelot. The cast was unbelievable. Richard Burton played King Arthur, Julie Andrews played Geneviere, and Robert Goulet was Lancelot. I was at a very impressionable adolence age, and Robert Goulet was the most handsome man I had ever seen. (Richard Burton was the sexiest, but I didn't know that then!). I sat in the dark theater with wonderful music, and was magically taken back to the days of the Round Table. For 2 1/2 hours, it was pure fantasy! Well, Robert Goulet lived a long life, and brought joy to many people. I feel priviledged that I got to see him perform live. Rest in Peace, Robert. A bientot! |

OMG! You are so lucky to have seen those guys on Broadway! How cool is that?
Do you know what the best part of the show Camelot is, Deb? The part of Horrid! Played by an Old English Sheepdog |
You know, its funny...I don't remember that! But, please don't tell Pirate! |
Well, I am a theater person - thus my being impressed at you seeing Robert Goulet on Broadway - and it is my dream to have a sheepdog play the part of Horrid. I tried with Mopsy but it did not work out. Unfortunately for Harry the dream did not die and I am always keeping my eye out for a production of Camelot being cast in my area. |
I had heard he died. What else has he been in? I know he's in those nut commercials...I just can't recall anything that I've actually seen him in for real.
Deb, that cast sounds like it would have been an amazing show. Richard Burton's that Irish or Welsh actor, right? |
I really don't know what other shows he was in. I know he had a pretty solid singing career in the 60's and did a lot Vegas stuff. I hated those nut commercial.. I found them beneath him. Yes, Burton (pant-pant) was Welsh. He was married to Liz Taylor a few times. His daughter plays Grey's mother on Grey's Anatomy. |
Aw, that's sad news. He was a great singer.
As to what else he had been in, he was always making the rounds of the Merv Griffin Show and the Mike Douglas show. That's how I knew him. Funny thing... I got confused for a moment and was trying to recall his wife's name, and I thought it was Edie Gorme... Then I remembered That it is Steve Lawrence who is married to Edie Gormet, but Robert Goulet was married to Carol Lawrence. Here is a link to see lots of stuff that he had been in, and some pictures. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0332587/ ...and I just learned from that site that he was born in ..... Lawrence Massachusetts! |
Wasn't he a frequent guest on The Carol Burnett Show? |
Well, Steve Lawrence was a frequent guest on the Carol Burnett show. |
He was a marvelous singer. here's a link to a bit about him
http://www.robertgoulet.com/bios.php and here you can hear him sing http://www.robertgoulet.com/index.php |
"debut as Sir Lancelot in the original Camelot (1960)"
Ok...for the record, I was only 10 in 1960...but I loved him just the same |
We had the album of Camelot form the Broadway play. We nearly wore the grooves out playing it. Wonderful musical. It had to have been awsome in person. |
I was sad to hear the news. He was one of the guest on shows that had a good voice and was funny. It was sad that he was waiting for trasplant. |
Bosley's mom wrote: Wasn't he a frequent guest on The Carol Burnett Show? Ron wrote: Well, Steve Lawrence was a frequent guest on the Carol Burnett show. Edie Gormet (Steve Lawrence's wife) was a guest a few times and Vicki Lawrence was also a regular.
My head is starting to spin. |
BUT! Robert Goulet was married to Carol Lawrence (no relation to Steve, I think) |
I will be most upset if Will Ferrel stops doing his Robert Goulet impression. I think he spent more time in interviews as Goulet than himself. |
And...I bet Goulet loved it! (He was a really funny guy!) |
