Sedative for Tux??

Tux is terrified of thunder and lightening. At the very first hint of rain--he begins pacing, panting, and jumping from chair to chair. We sit right beside him--but it just does not calm him down. As a puppy, he was afraid of loud noises (sweeper, mixer, etc.)--but that seems to have gotten better. But with sounds of a rainstorm, he is getting worse. He will be 4 years old next month. Thunderstorms used to be pleasant to sleep in; now, we know if it's going to rain, we are up for a sleepless night! Is there anything VERY mild that we could give him to calm him down? Obviously, I don't want to drug him! Just calm the big guy down. Sometimes, I'm afraid he's going to have a heart attack!! Thanks for any help you can give...

ok this might sound way out ...my daytona had the same problem she is now 12 but at 8 we found out she had a hole in her eardrum!! also a growth and had surgery----- so any noice she would hide i know this is a very rare case.. she had infections also all the time that made it worse.. i just let her be now she run into the closet so i have made a bed for her in there..
You can definintely try the benadryl, if that doesnt work ask the vet for Ace or in severe cases torb.
Maybe Rescue Remedy? It is all natural, and I believe that several people here have used it with great success. Here is a link:

Maybe Rescue Remedy?

We had good results from Rescue Remedy for my Beardie, Millie, at the beginning...but then, when it got worse..........she was on a perscription (can't remember the name but it REALLY worked.)
Thanks so much for all the advice!!! We had another sleepless night last night!!! My "poor furry baby" is snoozing peacefully now!!! I am going to try the Benedryl first...then check on the other stuff! Thanks again! I will let you know how it goes. Oh...he weighs 100 pounds. How much benedryl???
I've heard rescue remedy can do wonders - and it isn't a drug. Couldn't hurt to try!
I have checked on Rescue Remedy. Do you know about Rescue Remedy Pastilles? Looks like it's the same thing--except in tablet (chewable) form.. Has anyone used this type before? I found it by putting in "Rescue Remedy" in the search thing--and it came up the same--made by the same company, and so on..... Thanks!
Do you crate Tux? Genevieve is afraid of storms, too, but when I put her in her crate, she calms right down and rests until it's over.
