In the way

Where ever I need to "work" in the kitchen, I find a dog laying there. If I have to be at the sink, dog...if I have to get in the fridge,dog...if I have to stir something on the stove, or put something in the oven, dog!

And I'm such a softy, I work around them!

How do they know what I'm going to do, and when? And why don't they move? (Obviously, cuz they have me trained).

EEK!

You are a softy Deb. LOL

When Mopsy would be in the way, I would just take my foot and slide her out of the way and she would lay there like nothing had happened. If I try to slide Harry he jumps up like "What are you doing?"

Both of my dogs knew/know the word MOVE which we discovered accidentally with Mopsy. We were fixing up the house and she would be in the way. Someone would say "Mopsy is going to have to move" and she would get up and go to another spot. 8O So once we knew that we were able to tell her "You have to move". I made sure to teach the word to Harry although it took a while for him to catch on.

But you know, Deb I missed having to step over Mopsy lying in the middle of the kitchen floor when I was baking last Christmas. It felt like something was missing from the Christmas tradition and I guess it was. :(
Velcro dog  I have two that do that, Blue did not do this a first and thought that was great but he started. I'll be watching t.v dogs, go the the kitchen dogs, go back to living room dogs, get ready for bed and head to the bathroom open door just Sami, good , walk into bedroom poodle sitting on footstool waiting for me to make bed (hub on nites) Blue sleeping on floor already. I get into bed poodle heading under covers Sami on bed for her snuggle and Blue underbed (amazing that he still fits) One thing for sure I WILL NOT BE COLD THIS WINTER 8O
I walk round George too!

Its easier than trying to move him!!

And I don't have the haert to put him in another oom out of the way!!

I'm a softy too!
Barney totally does this. And depending on where he is, I either push him to the side, or try to squeeze into the cabinet behind him or reach over him to the sink.

Or, he'll be in the way and I'll get him to move and he somehow knows to go to the exact next spot where I need to be. Always in the way!
My husband and I joke that if there is ever a fire in our house we will burn because all 3 of our dogs will NOT get out of the way!! Moving from room to room is difficult because they are always in the way. My kitchen is very small and they love to lay on the floor when I'm cooking too. I need more room!!!

We must be creatures of habit, more than we think. My dogs always know where I'm going next, too!
We are always joking about the supervisor puppies. No matter what we are doing or where we are in the house, there the dogs are either "helping" or supervising. In the kitchen we have to be careful not to step on who ever is laying behind us.
Walking through he house we have to be careful to not stop too quickly or we end up with a puppy enema.
They do like to stick close, don't they?
I sometimes find it hard to believe I only have 1.....how does she manage to constantly move around and be where I need to be? It is like she divides herself into multiple dogs and is everywhere 8)

She always comes running when you open the fridge...hoping for a carrot or broccoli. She has learned "watch your head" because we have a french door fridge that will hit her head if she doesn't duck when you close it.
yeah its the same over here too!! i am constantly dancing around panda.....if the dancing goes on too long i usually take both hands, make lobster claws and go after her tooshie...that usually makes her move quick :D
I have the same problem. Especially in the kitchen. Of course Chewie is the worst (and biggest), but he definitely has company!
I just step around. Not that big of a deal. I figure it is good exercise, and keeps me agile!
Our kitchen does not have much walking space. So there is one phrase in my house that is spoken way to much....
It's: Get out of the kitchen!!!
This phrase is repeated over and over, not just to the dogs, but to the kids too. Nobody ever listens.
 Absolutely!! Only when I'm cooking it's "Everybody get out of my kitchen!!" at all other times the kitchen belongs to everyone 8)

If Rufus is not at my feet I know he's up to something naughty.

I know exactly what your talking about!!!!!
We have the same thing going with both Violet/China. When Hubby or I am baking or cooking in the kitchen both dogs are not far away and usually right under foot. Ok, ok, I'm guilty of sometimes slipping them a treat here and there. I just tell hubby that all of our lives we had to step around kids in the kitchen now it is dogs.
One of the first things we always teach a new dog is a command I inherited from my mother: "Outathekitchen!"
i never had any of my dogs sit in the kitchen until now~ derby loves to sit under the sink right on the mat. my mom is coming for thanksgiving and cooking she will not put up with that derby is going to have a rude awaking
lol i know where everyone is coming from here my lot are just the same i either step over them or if i really need them to move then oh boy  you would think i had asked them to do somthing really had  its the look i get lol
Dutch is either laying in my path, sitting leaning against my legs , laying boneless in front of whatever cupboard I want to open or walking in front of me and stopping with each step to look back and make sure I'm right there

This is exactly what I do to Boni. He would never move and he doesn't even care if I move him. But when I want everybody out of the kitchen, they leave me and watch me from the door.

Sounds just like Boni. I have Lumpi right next to me, Boni a little bit in front of me and a little bit side ways as if he was a seeing eye dog, guiding me, the blind 8) and stopping just like Dutch!
My dogs think I am helpless, and need to be watched all the time in case I need help. They are there to make sure that if I drop food they can remove it before I slip and fall. They are in the bathroom hall in case I slip in the tub and they have to call for help. They are on the bed in case I become ill or get too cold they can be there to comfort me. They are next to me when ever I sit, stand or lay down in case I need a snuggle. If they are not right there I miss them, and know that they are doing something that I am not go to like.
 I refer to Chauncey as my suppository.
Yeah, same thing here. It's mainly Glacier now.......she parks her butt either in front of the sink or the stove. If I bring out the knives and cutting board, all four surround me..........my fault for giving them cuttings. Jack will eat anything.......four legged garbage grinder....I don't have a disposer.......I've never seen apple cores disappear so quickly.

One moves carefully with hot pots........
Deborah, I was just thinking this very thing about Oscar. If I need to put something in the oven, he's asleep in front of it. If I need to throw something out, he's directly in front of the pull-out bin. And I have a pretty big kitchen, but there's never enough room for a sheepie! The funny thing is, Oscar is on a special diet and NEVER gets any table scraps, so I am not sure what he is trying to accomplish underfoot in the kitchen with me.

I call him my little speed bump! 8)

Laurie and Oscar, the Speed Bump
8O yes, sounds like many of us are blessed with sheepdogs next to us. Love the attitude of "suppository" and yes, wherever I am there's a sheepie with me including the bathroom or hogging the bed. And yes, I've been known to use the "GETOUTTATHAKITCHEN" command myself from time to time. Dogs and husband know to go and hide. :D
