Two nights ago, Brian and I were watching tv, Panda leaning up against the sofa next to me....Im sitting there watching tv and I always run my fingers through her hair and kind of pull out any small knots that might accumulate...its amazing what kind of ''brushing'' you can do with your finger tips..... Anyhoo...I thought I felt a knot right above her elbow...so, I get up and tell her to follow me into the kitchen...she comes slinking in with her head held low..(she usually knows this involves scissors)...I grab the scissors, sit down on the floor with her and start pushing hair around.... To my dismay AND horror...it was NOT a KNOT but a TICK.....ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... okay, i may be exaggerating a little bit....but i have NEVER, EVER seen a tick on my Panda.....gross, gross, gross....of course I made Brian remove it...then i brushed her throughly (in the garage), put alcohol on her boo-boo and gave her a cookie..... Yesterday took her to the groomers for a full bath and blow out.... Is there anything else I should have done?????? Poor Pooh-bear.....it was really gross and big.....yuck...i feel bad for not being more on top of it |

You done good. Often where there is one tick, there's another nearby...much smaller. They may or may not be attached. So next time do a little more investigating in the region. Then I'd dab the alcohol right away, then do the brush out. Ticks like high spots.....top of head and neck, dark spots like behind the ears and in the "armpits". With severe infestations, they are everywhere including inside the ears. Yeah, first few are gross, but meet a dog completely covered and you'll develop a harder disposition towards them. Now that you know Panda can get them, go over her often. Even with Frontline I still find a tick now and then. |
Ooh - good catch! |
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! I hate ticks. Barney has a lot of small dark patches of skin that show through his fur and it always makes me think it's a tick, so I'll go over and lightly poke the spot. Phew, just dark skin.
I'd have done the EXACT same thing Darcy... |

I'd have done the EXACT same thing Darcy... I can just imagine Barney thinking..."what is with her and the poking?" |

I remember having to pull ticks off of my Boxer.
Gross indeed! Good Job getting it off. I had had one of those plastic tick pullers from the Vet. Neat little tool and it worked great (when I could find it .) Tweezers work well too... if you know where you need to grab them from (up by the head of it). Did Brian do a good job grooming her? |

hahahaahahahhahahahahahahah.... Brian doesnt even know where I keep her brushes... it took me longer, but i did it all by myself |
That counts as PT exercises in my book.
Maybe we could list our dogs with rehab services for people who need to do arm exercises???? |

Should have known better. I agree with Dawn, definitely counts as PT. Hope you are not too sore from brushing. |
and ironically, Brian keeps asking me if ive been DOING my arm exercises because he ''doesnt'' see me doing them.....
I told him...''do you SEE me taking the trash out, folding the laundry, ironing the sheets, putting dishes away...etc...YES, Im doing my arm exercises....sheesh!" |
Quote: ironing the sheets
not in 20+ years............. |

I haven't seen sheets ironed since my Grandmother passed. I'd always ask her why she ironed the sheets because they would wrinkle the minute I got into bed. I wasn't the favorite grandchild. And I don't carry on the tradition. |
I'm an old grandma and I don't iron sheets |

And I don't carry on the tradition. It smells and feels good...and this is what my mother taught me... and I'm 25... But I do see your point as this is what my husband tells me every time! Darcy, Boni never had a tick but Lumpi did and I did the exact same thing you did, including calling Charlie to do the "dirty job". |
I wash my hands even though they will be getting dirty again.
I eat even though I will be hungry again. I don't care if my sheets aren't ironed. The bottoms are fitted and don't really need any ironing as they are very taut, IMO. The tops? Well, with the efforts involved in changing bed linens they aren't still ironed by the time I hit the sheets anyway. If you want a nice crease showing up over the covers when they are folded back, I can press those into the sheets if you like! |

People, Darcy's got enough going on in her life without everyone taunting her about her sheet ironing addiction!!!! Besides, the taunting is my job!! |
