Fashion question-Black hose or Nude hose with a black dress?
Tony and I are going to black tie gala Friday night. I bought a (gorgeous) little black dress. Very formal. My question, are women still wearing black hosery with black dresses, or shall I go with more natural color hose? I'm going to be wearing black satin heels. Yes, I will be crippled Saturday. You all should know by now, I'm a fashion dork! thanks |

| I love natural hose with a black cocktail dress. It looks very French chic and shows off your legs. To me, black hose is for under a long skirt or dress when you want to have a long seamless line. It undermines the impact of a short dress (in my opinion). Have a great time! |
| I'll play devil's advocate to Val. Black stockings with a black cocktail dress. Gives one long, lean line. They must be veryvery sheer, very expensive stockings.

Ron...I certainly wasn't there, but have read, during WW2 women could not buy hose (rationing and all) so they would paint that stripe down their legs! |
| I really think it also depends on the dress, too. Do you have a picture of it? Sometimes even a super subtle taupe, almost nude looks good, too. I think black hose with a formal-ish black dress looks a little too Joan Collins/Dynasty era. |
| I would definitely go with nude hose. I believe it looks much nicer, unless they were extremely extremely sheer black hose, but I still think I'd go with nude. Good luck and have fun! |

| Lightening bolts are probably headed my way as we, eh, speak - I'm a wandering fashion faux paw, eh, pas. But I had this exact same dilemma for the banquet at the national a few weeks ago; wanted to wear black, developed a run in them as I went to put them on, went with then nude and, obviously, the fashion gods were looking out for me for a change, because it was the right choice.

guess it also depends on your legs too. They would look longer, sleeker with black. For me it would cover up the vaines that are showing, the scars, and bruses  from bumping in to things. Although if you have very nice skin I would go with sheer nude color. |

This is why I avoid nylons at all cost and I know plenty of people would rather I did in the ring as I am obviously commiting a serious fashion faux pas! At any rate, I was at the National and actually got to see Kristine in the black dress with the nude nylons...it was a good chioce I thought...but then I too am usually fashionably challenged....my idea of a good outfit involves a hooded sweatshirt- so I can carry training treats in the pocket, jeans, and tennis shoes! I actually did bust out the nude nylons and black dress for the banquet as well and did so confidently.... Moral of the story...whatever you decide on, wear it with confidence and no one will second guess you |

Ok...here goes: I'm 57, I have a 90 pound dog, a 50 pound dog, I work out 3 times a week (always bumping into stuff) and can't shave my legs without cutting them! I told my nephew who went to his first dance (sigh they grow up sooo fast) that if i were there, Id do (whisper the words really fast)....jazz hands, flash dance and snapshot....lol...i could feel his embarressment over the phone... Aint nothin' wrong with leggings or leg warmers for that matter..theyre back in ya know!! and if i had more hair (might have to buy another wig)...go for the big bowed madonna hair...and wear plastic bracelets!!! |

I was stuck back on the part a page or 2 ago with "what the heck did I even wear at nationals to the banquet??"  I do remember that Kristine and Sunny both looked darn good, so I think you both made the right choices.
So now I am back from dog class, caught up on reading this, and it came back to me. I had a crinkled white dress blouse, with a light blue fairly long skirt. I wore the neutral pearl colored sandals I wore at LeAnne's wedding, and no nylons. Just a fresh pedicure! And how could I forget, because I gracelessly caught my heel in a crack in the cement as I returned to my motel and ripped a hunk of skin off my little toe. |
