Ladybug has a minor hygenic problem that I'm wondering if anyone has a good answer to. The shag around her mouth has a habit of getting chunky with (what I think is) a mixture of food and drool. It gets all stiff when dry but is generally wet and a little gross. Gosh, writing it out makes it sound a lot worse than it is! Anyway. I was wondering if anyone had a way to clean it that didn't involve bathing all of her. I mean, I'd like to allow her to not get bathed that often. I'd also like to not have to trim it off- I like letting her fur grow out, except around her eyes and on her bottom. I guess if I have to I will but I was hoping all of you awesome experienced people had a good idea! Thanks! And here's a pic of the Bug, just for giggles: http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd53 ... She is cute!
You could try using a small metal comb that is designed for grooming the face of a small dog. I usually trim the crud. |
You can use a Waterless Shampoo, comes in a spray bottle. Mist onto the area then rub with hands and towel off. Any chunks of crud in the beard then just run the comb through after using the waterless shampoo, while still damp to remove hanger on-ers still stuck in the beard. Then if need be do the waterless shampoo over that area again and towel off again.
Then you don't have to keep washing that area all the time. Cleans and freshens the beard till you want to bath them. There is a few brands of the waterless shampoo on the market. What a cutie. |
Bailey collects "snacks" for later too. I comb out the sides daily. And I have been known to trim under her chin when I can't stand it. we will also take her into the bathroom and scrub her face with shampoo, over the tub.
Riley, so far, has a cleaner face. Her fur is a difernet texture and usually stays cleaner. I've just jinxed myself, haven't I? |
i love the pic!! Really made me laugh |
We all knew exactly your question just from the title. Good word choice! |
I would use a comb. But don't use it long ways, just use the tip of the comb and pick threw the chunck. Then you can break it up and then turn it sideways to grab it all.
You could also hold up all the hair on the upper side of his mouth and thin out the underside near the rim of his mouth with thinners. That way when you lay the hair back down, you don't have quite as much bulk near his mouth and no one else is the wiser. The waterless shampoo's are a good idea in between baths as well. |
I just use a good ole' wash cloth and soap when Frank's face gets gross. |

Me too. I bought a whole slew of washclothes, just for Nanny. I sometimes use those puppy wiping pads, but it's hard to clean her face because she tries to eat the wipe. The washcloth works pretty well. If her beard is not too gross, you can even just use a wet washcloth, instead of soap. |
You need another dog to clean it up... |
Bosley, I'll be sure to tell my husband- he's the impedience to another dog!
Thanks for the help, all. Do you all use just this type of comb? http://www.timsdiscountpet.com/servlet/ ... ace/Detail Or something else? I will poke around at my groomers and see if she has anything! I appreciate the advice very much |
