I take China and Violet out for a walk every morning just after 8:00... most people have left for work and the kids are all into school by then... not a lot of distractions for them. Also fairly cool still.. ok 80 degrees. lol Anyway, having a nice walk Violet following, China leading, me in the middle. Walking down Grissom Hwy, busy road, two older women standing out in front chatting. Dogs spy them, China starts to get excited..I say "mind your business" I accidently dropped China's lead, China doesn't notice until I go to pick it up and lose my balance and fall down on cement sidewalk (path for UK). Scrape the living h@@@ out of my knee and see front of calf starting to swell. Hand is starting to hurt from trying to hold dogs back. Leg bleeding ladies ask if I'm alright, finally get control of dogs and one lady brings out wet paper towels for my leg. I wipe off, they ask where I live, about a half mile away...and we head off towards home..limping in pain. Walked down Faye BLVD..busy street, people look at us slow down but keep going. Finally get to Jamaca which takes us back into the subdivision and half waydown the street I spy a cat. I think to self "God isn't it bad enough that I can barely walk and my hand is killing me, why do you put a cat in front of China?" China spys cat starts tugging lead, my middle finger is in so much pain, i just let her lead go. China chases cat two houses down, comes back when called. My finger is in so much pain and now very swollen, that now I have to hold my hand with the fingers pointed towards Heaven. So limping down Canon St, China in lead, me in middle limping with right hand fingers pointing toward heaven, Violet following behind, We finally make it home. I limp into the house, China runs to water bowl, Violet collapes in middle of living room. I go into kitchen, no bandaids, wash out cut knee (whole knee) pour on peroxide. Look for medical tape, wrap around finger that is now all black and blue and very swollen. The finger with the cyst attached to the tenden. Take pain pills for shingles. Try to figure out how I am going to get two dogs ready for pics in two days. Thursday, finger hurts like h@@ but knee is feeling better. Try to figure out how to get on floor without hurting knee, so when Chuck gets home she is ready for her bath. Finally, and carefully, both dogs brushed out. Chuck comes home, can't believe the mess I'm in, he makes dinner and washes both dogs. (He is so good). I felt bad because the dogs didn't get a walk on Thursday because my hand was in too much pain to try and control them....or even hold a lead. Friday, I know dogs need walk so they will be in the right state of mind for pics that night....so off we went. We left early at 7:00 I had to be home by 8:00 so my friend could pic me up. I had to babysit her Autistic 8yr old son and 9 yr old daughter while she and her husband went to Family Court to start finalizing their adoption of an 11yr old girl. Down side is son was hospitalized for two weeks due to reaction to new meds so not on any meds right now. Friend tells me "I don't know how he is going to be for you." Anyway, babysitting went well...I cooked breafast for them. We watched animal planet together, practiced math had a great time. Good news, 11yr old girl gets to move into her new home with friend and adoption should be complete next month. Friend's husband says "isn't that Chuck who just pulled up on motorcycle." He was sent home early because 220 line not working at shop...so I hop on back of motorcycle and we head home. I groom Violet, careful with finger and knee. Groom China, all the while setting my hair, fixing makeup ect. So 5:15 we head out to Target....we get onto I 95 start heading south...see lightening, start getting rain drops, traffic starts to really slow down. We get off exit before the one we planned on exiting from...look down highway and see cause of backup...a car is on fire..fully engulfed. We proceed to take the backway into where the shopping centers are. We see five police cars on the side of the road at a water retention pond. Read in paper today, woman drove car into retention pond and died. Finally arrive at Target, it is raining, Chuck drops me and dogs off at front door under overhang. Two Target workers taking "smoke" break. One says "Oh an OES! I have one at home who is 12 yrs old. Said she keeps hers in puppy cut. She is originally from CA so likes to keep her short." "She says Violet/China beautiful, could be the same breed they look so much alike." What? Anyway, the whole time both dogs trying to get their "pets" in. Finally Chuck comes I give both dogs to him and in we go to the studio. Floor very slippery, Violet figures out to walk slow and she won't slip...China not so smart...so excited about people...she keeps slipping. Both girls did GREAT for pics. Climbing on/off table for pics I had to keep in mind my knee and finger not to hurt them. When we get the pics I will post them on the forum. After pics...stopped at fast food and then went home...so glad to finally be there. All four legs and two legs tired and happy to go to bed. My knee is healing, medical tape off finger, a lot of bruises but can't see them in pics...did I mention we wore shorts in the pic, but can't see my knee, thank God. Anyway, I would like a little less adventure for a while..oh we are back to our walks. |

Now, I got to say I am so sorry for all that you have went through in the last few days BUT you had me laughing with the way you told the story especial I can picture this : "I think to self "God isn't it bad enough that I can barely walk and my hand is killing me, why do you put a cat in front of China?" I have had those days .... Great reading and I cant wait to see the pictures. I really hope you feel better , Big hug for you ! Antoinette |
OMG Helen, that is horrible!
I am glad you are OK, and happy that the pictures turned out. Take it easy for a bit, OK?? |
You poor thing! Boni sends you wiggle butts and slobbery heeling kisses and Lumpi wishes he was there when China spotted that cat, he would have loved to chase it with China!
Ps: This is how Lumpi broke my finger last year...except it was a tennis ball instead of a cat. Can't wait to see the pictures!!!! |
Yikes, that was some day you had regarding the dog walking! Wonder if we have days like that so that we appreciate all the other good days more?
Glad you were able to get the photos done of the girls and now it's time to take care of yourself. Hope your limbs are doing better. My boys are sending sloppy kisses to you. Marianne |
That is terrible, Helen. I hope you are okay!!
Tell China and Violet that Mommy is breakable and they need to be more careful. Congrats to your friend on the adoption! Can't wait to see how the picture turned out. |

I am wondering why people were looking at you as you were walking down the boulevard. How many fingers were you holding up to heaven? |

China would have love to have Lumpi join in, kind of a "tag team" effort. lol China does love her cats/squirrels. She has her own cat at home, Pearl, but she won't let China chase her. hahahaha! |
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. I am healing and China, who thinks she is a nurse, is constantly trying to clean my knee. lol China took care of me during my worst part of my shingles also...she thinks that it her job.
Ron: I stopped counting after one! I think the thing that amazed me the most that all of these people saw me limping and bleeding and slowed their cars down to look (like a train wreck) and no one even stopped to see if I needed help...just strange I guess. I am glad my story was taken in good humor, as that was the spirit for which I intended. I laugh most things off, so was laughing as I typed away. Side bar: The car that went in the retention pond is a sad story in there where two people in the car, both in their late 70's. They where out celebrating the lady's birthday, which is tomorrow and lost control of the car. The man is originally from Philidephia and a retired detective. He is in critical condition. Plz pray for him. |
I sure hope those pics turn out! You'll remember them for long time. Can't wait to see them. |
