I'm also thinking of buying some super magnetic thingys that are supposed to hold up a wreath, but just in case they don't work..... |
|
i use an over the door hook...works great...however if you have an alarm system you have to make sure that the hook doesnt block the magnetic system....will render your alarm useless...so alas my wreath is not perfectly centered on my door........ |
I have the over the door hook and it hasn't scratched any paint yet. |
I use the over the door hooks, too, and it works fine.
I am having a dickens of a time finding something to hang wreathes on the windows, though. I bought the giant sucker thingys last year and about half of them stayed put. The others fell every few days. Anyone have a better suggestion? |
Our door is to "tight" for one of those....Scott installed the door and was a wee tad bit obsessive about draft. So...we just hang ours on the outside wall next to the door. |
Since most modern exterior doors are insulated steel doors, a large magnet, such as the one from a blown woofer (speaker, not dog! ) makes a really good anchor for some sort of a hanger for a wreath. |
Jo, glue some ribbon or felt on the side that goes on the door, then you don't have to worry about scratches. The big magnetic hooks work great and so do those 3M things that don't remove the paint when you take the hooks off. Tammy, if the wreaths aren't very heavy use some strong fishing line and attach it a small cup hook or nail above the window.

I have the wreath hanger that hangs over the door and have had no problems with it scatching the paint. I leave mine up all year 'round because I change my wreath for each season.
Good luck with your search. |
Ack!! Why did you have to start this thread?? Now I'm all excited about Christmas.
I love Christmas! The second that Thanksgiving is over I bust out all of our Christmas stuff. I already started using my winter candy apple hand lotion that, to me, smells like Christmas. We have to get a stocking for Nanny!! I tried to do an online search about wreath hanging, but didn't find anything not already mentioned. Martha Stewart's website has lots of info, but her crafts can get a little intense. (or a lot intense, ha) |
Beaureguard's mommy, I don't know if they work but on QVC, they have magnets that hold up to 11lbs. I think they say for windows too. You'd have to check. There are reviews if you click on the listing. It comes up for me if I enter "wreath" and maybe "magnetic"
I think I'll tape a coffee liner or as someone suggested a ribbon on the inside of the hook to protect the door. |
