hi! i have a now 5 month old oes girl named matie. my parents always had our dogs outside but matie is an inside dog. (my parents think she's spoiled but yet they e-mail her pictures to everyone! ) anyway, i thought about this too. it's 10 degrees F here today and i find the problem is more that i cannot handle the cold nearly as well as she can. matie loves to play in the snow and even on cold, rainy days, she loves to run around the yard. basically, my puppy loves to be cold and wet! i hate it! so, depending on the dog, you should be ok. they are built to be in the cold, damp, environment of the hearding fields of england. i would never, however, have an oes live outside. i think the key to a happy oes is they are happy wherever they are as long as it is with you. inside, outside, in the car, in the bathroom, anywhere! good luck, bridy |
Let's put it this way, my 11-month old OES, who stays inside with us most of the time, was out this morning in the backyard, rolling around in the snow, lying down eating snow, running around, etc. and it's -11F (-24C) -- not counting the windchill! (I'd love a -10C day right about now!) He asked many times to go out this morning!
He loves it! He doesn't stay out very long on his own -- and I haven't been taking him for walks because of bursistis of the hip -- but when I take him for walks in the winter he has a blast. I've never seen him shivering from the cold... Suzanne |
I had charlie for over 7 years and he loved the cold weather.
He would lie on our deck sleeping in a snow storm and when I told him to come in the house he would left his head and give me a look that said are you nuts it's nice out here. So out I would go to bring him into the house. Then in the summer I would find him sleeping in the bathtub. The coolest place in the house, he thought. |
