cool mist or warm mist humidifier

| I have warm mist humidifiers for my bedroom and living room. I find that the warm mist is absorbed better by the dry air. If you're sick, what about a vaporizer? |
should go to Dr, if it has been that long. If your full of phlegm you could get worse. They give you something to clear you up. I waited once and put me in hospital, cold, new baby, moving = hospital 3 weeks  Brother waited and he ended up with pneumonia and new seems to get it every 2 years. |
| Well, for babies they recommend cool mist humidifiers. Less issues with bacteria, etc; however, I just saw something on the Today show (this week) that said experts don't think humidifiers truly do the job. Standing in the bathroom while someone takes a hot shower works better than any humidifier, according to them. I'm no expert but find them to be very useful.
Vicks Cool and Warm mist have some of the best ratings. I just buy a little ball thing that you insert in the water for 90 days that gets rid of anything forming inside the water. |

| I'm not sure there's a whole lot of difference between the two approaches; the object is to get moisture into the air.
The warm ones might help the room be a little warmer. They evaporate the water into the air, whereas the cold ones make a mist and flig the mist into the air which then evaporates. The cold ones therefore will discharge the impurities in the water into the room as a small amount of dust, and the warm ones those impurities will likely collect on the sponges or other material used as a wick, and will need to be cleaned. I guess a way to compare them would be to look for how much water they will put into the air over an hour. |
| cant really tell you which one works better, BUT I can tell you which one is more fun!!!
Growing up when we were sick mom would use a heat vaporizor....you could melt crayons really well with it and then ''paint'' the wall...... for some reason, mom then switched to the cold vaporizor....i have no idea why??!!  |

If you are going to do the warm air thing- you can get much the same result by boiling water- taking it off of the heat- and putting a towel over your head to trap the steam. My Grandma's used to put Vicks in the water too, but, I am not so sure they recommend that now. It worked for us though- and - somtimes the old tried and true is the best!  |

| That reminds me... when Joan was really sick last winter, I set up a clothes rack near the baseboard heat and draped it with as many of our huge thickest absobantist towels that I could find, and I boiled water and CAREFULLY kept pouring it on the towels... it really brought the humidity up in that room! |
