I was wondering if any body could help. It started about a week ago my dog is entire and has had sore testicals, they are red and sore and slightly scabby. I took him to the vets and they said its not really anything to much to worry about as the actual tesicals and prostate are all ok. They gave me some antibiotics and cream to apply but said It is just on the scrotal sack. The odd thing is that the same thing happended last year and I took him to the vet almost to the day last year with the same problem. He said it must be something irritating them but i cant for the life of me think of anything. His diet, environment, routine has not changed. Has anyone had similar problems, knows of any one with the similar problem or got any suggestions on what it could be. I know its a long shot but any help would be much appreciated |

Our previous OES Ollie had this trouble periodically. I washed him and applied antibiotic ointment until it cleared up. It did keep recurring though over time.
Even though he had no bad male behaviors associated with an intact male, I had him neutered at about 5-6 yrs old because of this very problem. That took care of it! |
Since it's at a certain time of year I wonder about allergies, airborne, something he's brushing up against, mites or other insect pest only at this time. Poor guy, must be uncomfortable. |
try emu oil I swear by this stuff. Google it and read up on it I use it from everything. People and dogs, it helps with the itching also. Not sure what part of the emu its from but it works. Health food store, a little does a long way. |
A burr or a pricker of some sort maybe? But the vet probably would have seen it. Hmmm
I vote for allergy or coincidence. Poor boy. |
Thank you every body for your help, I really appreciate it. Im pleased to hear at least one other person has expereinced a similar problem I was starting to think it was just Alfie. I will definately look into the emu oil and im going to investigate on the net a bit more.
Im thinking it may be a little tricky with the wording though, Ill have to choose my words very carefully!! |
Does your pup lay on cememt or concrete a lot??? We used to have a poodle and he had the same exact problem. The vet thought it was because he liked laying beside the pool on the cement and in the summer the cement can become quite warm and can create a reaction. |
Funny you should mention about the cement, because thats what my vet asked me if he layed on concrete accessively or if we were having any work done on the house.
He doesnt tend to lay on the concrete very often away and certainly hasnt recently. However we are having the road ripped up near our house where we walk past every day do you think there is any way this could be interferring (I mean particals in the air??) - sounds bizaar I know but Im kind of running out of suggestions. I hope you dont mind me asking but did you manage to resolve the problem with your poodle and did it re-occur?? |
I'm not sure about the particles, ask your vet he may have some suggestions. Our poodle loved to lay on the porch which was, unfortunately cement. Once he was diagnosed he had to take medication all his life because we couldnt get him to stay off the porch. "IT was huge and wrapped around from the front door to the back door. AND "Pudgy" not only did he love laying on the porch but he also would lay in such a position "like a frog I always said" that his scrotum were always in contact with what ever he was laying on. If you could picture he would lay something like this o>--< on his belly legs going out. He was a funny dog |
Given it's happening in the fall, could it be seasonal allergies? Chauncey has been sneezing the past few days, hubby's eyes are red & watery and I've had to use my inhaler.....damn ragweed |
