It was my birthday on Sept 24th (I figure if I don't celebrate I don't notice another year going by..ha ha) My mom and my sister booked tickets for an Alaskan cruise. Me - "Whaddya nuts? I can't leave all my animals!". Sister and mom.."we thought of that, we'll pay for the kennel". Me - "Nope". (I couldn't help but think how many animals could be fed, neutered, spayed with the cash instead.) So off went my family (nephews and their g/f's too) on an Alaskan cruise to celebrate my birthday without me there. Instead, I had cash in hand to feed bunnies at the shelter, purchased new bedding for the furkids and other essentials. My pal from Holland who was visiting took me out to choose a digital camera for my birthday. Me - "Whaddya nuts? I'd really can live without a camera for a while and rather spend the cash on something else". The something else turned out to be 240 pounds of high quality food for all the critters in my household, and a full pantry of tinned cans..something like a hundred! My cupboards are full!! While the shelters whom I foster for gives me pet food - often it's not as high quality as I like so this is a bonus! People at work kinda shook their heads at my judgement..what no new shoes? No celebration? They finally understood when I said I really didn't need those things because I feel pure joy when I return home at night and walk into the foster cat room and am surrounded by purring furballs (previously feral kittens) happiness from the dogs and lots of cuddles from the cats. Even the bunnies race up to me for pats now. That's heaven to me. I'm living the life I always dreamt about and that makes me rich. Marianne |

Marianne---
You are very blessed....and so are ALL the animals you "mother".... Thank you |
lol, that is awesome!!! What a great present!! WHAT A FRIEND |
Just remember Marianne, Caregiver burnout is possible even with critters. You do need to take time every now and then to spend a dollar or two on yourself and take care of your own needs.
I agree, I'd rather stay home with the animals than go on a cruise but don't totally ignore your own wants and needs. |
God Bless you Marianne |
Thanks!
Hey great news everyone and lets all keep our fingers crossed! Remember when I recently posted about the foster kittens asking for name choices? Well tomorrow and Sunday is kitty viewing at the SPCA - means all those kittens in foster care are brought down to the shelter so the public can view them in one of the trailors kept on sight. The kittens don't stay at the shelter due to the many colds and respitory viruses that around as the ones that are 8wks old don't have all their shots. Mine are close to 5 months but needed that extra time to turn from snarling hissing feral kittens to purring furballs. Unfortunately they will be competing with the little ones for homes. So keep your fingers crossed! May they find the perfect homes. On another note...I'm really hoping this will turn out. Someone called about Broken Pelvis kitty now named Bluebelle (thanks Lisa) and be visiting my home to view her this weekend. If he decides she's the cat for him and I approve , he'll go to the shelter and pay and bring back the papers and she'll go home with him. Keep your fingers crossed for her as well! Promise to celebrate and treat myself if these fosters get new homes. Marianne |
