what does "judg" on the results page mean?

Hi,

I was looking at the results page for the Specialty and there was a couple of dogs with the letters judg next to their entry number.

Can anyone tell me what that means?

Thanks!

The judge excused the dog.

Does that happen often?

No.

I think I've only seen it once before against an OES, and in that case it was what we would consider "handler error" in other venues. Though I don't show in breed one minute more than I absolutely have to since I don't enjoy it, so I guess I'm not the best one to ask. The judge can choose to excuse the dog for a number of different reasons.

You can be excused in other venues as well. In agility, and I think if you beg nicely also obedience, you can asked to be excused. But that's different. That's because you and your dog are having such a bad day you need to get out of there sooner rather than later - and that is marked as an NQ (non-qualifier).

One of my first times in the Open obedience ring, I popped the last cookie in my dog's mouth and waited for the judge to invite us into the ring. A minute later, we heeled in, dog sat, and as I reached down to remove her leash the dog cacked that last cookie right back up at the judge's feet. Well, you're not allowed to bring food (or toys) into the ring and, technically, we had. I was mortified and just stood there staring at the judge, expecting to be excused.

The judge just stood there staring back at me. Finally I said: "what do we do now?" And she said: "We continue on". I spent the remainder of the time in the ring alternating between hoping for the floor to open up and swallow us, and giggling helplessly. We NQ'd on some other exercise, so I never did find out if that cacking did us in from the get-go or not. All I know is that after the last exercise, the judge turned to my dog in a mock-stern voice said: "you need to learn to swallow!"

Think of it as a cross between a cough and a hack - cack!

Kristine
Oh no, that is a perfect word!

Our Jake used to do that, and that is exactly the sound he made if some food got stuck. Sometimes it was followed by the "gag" and then the barf, which would or would not eject the contents of the tummy, which would immediately be re-eaten.

Sometimes the object (piece of kibble) would be propelled out with just the cack and land across the room.

He was a wolfer downer.
Happens here too on occassions for different reasons.

I even seen judges refusing CC's for being only one entry representing that breed and not worthy of a CC.

Love the Cack word, good one Kristine.  (aussie version "Chunder") :P
