She was found crouched under a car scared and hesitant to come out, which i thought was odd for a puppy. We tried to walk her around the neighborhood to see if she belonged to anyone, and she froze and wouldnt move whenever we tried to walk her on a leash (which is what makes me think it was dragged or abused), and she freaked out in a car on the way to the vet (which I guess could just be normal). She is also extremely calm for a puppy. Is this a characteristic of the breed? I only have experience with labs. Additionally, if anyone has lost a puppy please let me know Thanks for your help! |

Where are you?
Have you contacted local Vets to see if anyone has reported a lost sheepdog, also a Vet could tell you if the dog is micro chipped. Do you have an SPCA that might have received inquiries? No, sheepies are not paticularly calm as puppies, silly but not calm. |
I also only had experience with labs prior to getting Chauncey 2 years ago. I can assure you the breeds have little in common. I would contact the local SPCA, and Vet's. Sheepdog puppies are expensive and if she is lost I'd suspect they would make every effort to locate her. On the down side, this breed ( esp. puppies ) are a hand full. This makes them more lovable to some and unfortunity make rescues neccesary. From one lab lover to another, Sheepies are challenging but always good for a laugh
Definitely alot more hard-headed ( I prefer strong willed ), but entertaining and lovable...always good for a kiss...even when being bad!...........Kathy |
Are you sure you actually have an OES puppy or perhaps a small breed, fluffy dog? That could account for the calmness. Then again, my OES was pretty laid back pup. If she's really that young of a dog, she may not have ever been on a leash, which could be why she's freaking out, too. The first time on a leash is always a traumatic experience. |
What did the vet say about the dog? Did you put some signs up in your neighbourhood that you found her? |
We contacted local vets, the local animal shelter and gave them our # in case an inquiry comes in, i looked online local bulletin boards/craigslist for anyone who lost a sheepdog pup and all have turned up as a negative. I did not know the breed of the dog at first, it was the vet that said she is an Old English Sheepdog and scanned her for a chip but she does not have one. She had no tags or collar on when I found her. |
Did you check the ears for a tatoo. If she is registered, there will be one. What area are you located in? There may be a lost and found type of website you can check as well. |
Sounds like you are doing everything you can to find this pup their home.
Good luck. |
OK, phew!!! She is found!
I am so glad you found her....She is mine...... So when can I pick her up? (hmmm....wonder how I can sneak an OES puppy past my husband without him noticing...) |

You know...not necessarily. It's optional - not required, and since it's a puppy - might not have been done yet. But good idea to check, for sure. |

OH NO, you must be mistaken, she's mine, I lost her 5 days ago and everyone is sooo happy she has been found!!! meanwhile, I'll figure out how to insure my husband is doing the happy banana dance over having a girl puppy show up on our door step. |
My bf just checked the dogs ears and there is no tattoo. Do you guys know of anyplace in the NY area that we could take her that would treat her well and not put her to sleep in a few weeks if she is not adopted? Our local shelter puts dogs to sleep in 10-14 days. It doesn't look as though we are going to be able to keep her. It's a shame, she's such a cutie |
Where in NY are you?
The Tompkins Co (Ithaca NY) SPCA is a No Kill shelter. Someone here may be able to hook you up with a Sheepie Rescue as well. |
Hi Guest,
I would suggest that you please contact Grannie Annie at NEOESR (New England OES Rescue) at grannie.annie@neoesr.org website: http://www.neoesr.org/ and please be sure to keep us posted. |
Please let us know where in NY this puppy is, so arrangements can be made to pick her up. Please do NOT take her to a shelter. There are enough people on this forum who can assist with saving this gal.
She can go to a rescue group, or my house...whichever gets her first! |
Any news? |
someone on here remind me that i dont need another sheepie, so cute |
Hmmmm... 7 girls has a nice sound to it I've got 3 from Texas... 1 from New Jersey... I think a sheepie from New York would be mighty fine
All kidding aside, if you need any help in making certain this little girl is safe, please let us know. This group can at times MAKE things happen to ensure the safety of a sheepie. We all just want her to be safe and have the best chance at a wonderful life. |
I never thought of sheepdog puppies as calm but my vet assures me that peforming an exam on my sheepies--as puppies or as adults--is a far different thing than performing an exam on a lab puppy. Comparatively speaking, she tells me OES pups are much calmer. Or at least mine were.
Hope you were able to connect with rescue or a forum member. Thank you for finding us and for doing your best for her! |
