1. Very lathargic - Sleeping all day, when he goes in the backyard he does his business and then lays down. Has little to no energy for a walk. 2. Little to no appetite – Typically I can’t even put Hendrix’s dish down without him attacking the food. Since Sunday morning he has had little to no appetite. He eats a few nibbles here and there and that’s it. 3. Bloodshot eyes – The whites of his eyes are red and I noticed that they are drooping. It almost has ths appearance of rolling back into his eye sockets. Very creepy 4. Flourescent Yellow Urine – It’s bright yellow, like a highlighter. 5. Stumbling – When I let him outside he stumbled when he walked out. 6. Sneezing – He will sneeze several times in the day. 7. Warm nose – It’s not cold and it’s a little damp, not really wet like usual. 8. Runny Nose – His nose looks snotty 9. Congested Breathing – He’s sort of weezing while he sleeps. |

Don't waste time waiting until this evening to see the vet. First thing I think of is poisoning. If this is the case, time is of the essence.
Let us know what you find out. |
My husband is out of town and I'm at work. It's 1:10pm right now and I'm leaving work at 4:40 to have him looked at. |
I get out of there now and get him to the vet. It does sound as he ate something bad. PLEASE go now or you might regret it. PLEASE!!!!!!!
Let us know how he is. |
I've just returned. The vet let me drop him off so that someone could watch him since no one is home. Strangely, he seemed back to his old self when I got home! He jumped up on my when I came in, ran around the house even ate some food. When I took him outside to go to the bathroom before the vet he sneezed a few times. Other than that, the same old Hendrix. I had to sign a waivor saying that I gave them permission to draw blood and do chest xrays if needed. I'm relieved he's in their hands ow.
When I got to the vet she even commented how he seemed in good spirits. They weighed him and he's lost about 5lbs. I'm picking him up after work. I will let you know what they say. |
Wow. Did they say anything about a possible cause for his symptoms? |
She said he's list of symptoms are all over the place so it will be tough to tell. She said the key things to check are his temperature and his lungs for congestion. That way she'll be able to check and see if its viral or something he may have ate. He seemed ecstatic to be there. |
Hope Hendrix is OK by the time you see him again. It's so scary when your furbaby is acting sick..... |
I hope he's okay! |
Keeping my fingers crossed for you and Hendrix!! |
Poor Hendrix, and poor you! Please let us know how he is doing.
Laurie and Oscar |
He was probably exposed to a little bit of Kibblenite
We all know that's the only possible thing that could make Hendrix feel so weak. We all know now that the exposure is gone, he will be flying around again soon. |
Alright, so I'm back home with Hendrix. The vet really didn' have an answer, but we know that he doesn't suffer from any type of poisoning. She did an xray and it showed no infection. He still has a runny and snotty nose. His urine showed signs of lots of bacteria. So much bacteria that they have to send it out to a lab to get it examined further since their inner office lab couldn't identify all of the bacteria.
The vet thinks that the bacteria in the urine will lead to his illness. She thinks that he may have an upset stomach which in turn caused him to minimize his eating. She ran a blood test and everything is perfect! His blood cells for his immune system were a little off, but that could be him fighting his cold. He is not having pancrease or liver problems and no kidney stones. So, I was sent home with probably the most expensive antibiotics EVER!! 30 Pills of Baytril cost me $170!?! Their going to call me back with his urine analysis. They may stop me from using the expensive medication (and at that point, I'm asking them to buy back the meds since it may be unnecessary.) Other then that, it's the same ol day with a visit back there in 2 weeks. She said his appetite should return in the next day or so as the antibiotics fight whatever he's got. As for right now, Hendrix seems back to his old self. Once I see him eat his food, I will officially say he's back to being the big ol' sheepie. I will let you all know what the urine comes up with. |
Thats great to hear. I am glad you took him in. Better that then be sorry. Keep us informed |
WOW there the most expensive anti-biotics I think I have ever heard of
Hope Hedrix is back to his superman self soon. Hope the urine test comes back all good as well. Hugs keep us posted |
I'm glad he seems to be doing better.
I hope he's feeling 100% better really soon. |
Bacteria in urine can cause a lot of symptoms. We see it quite often at my clinic. It is also amazing that after they culture the bacteria and know what it is exactly that after a couple days on the right antibiotic they get so much better quickly. It sounds like he will do just fine. |
I hope sheepie boy Hendrix will be feeling better soon. That is expensive medicine, but be prepared for them to not "buy it back" because they really can't sell it to anyone else if they do. They can't guarantee it has been stored properly or not tampered with. I am sorry the meds where so expensive. |
Poor Hendrix! I hope he feels better soon. |
I got to thinking today, Hendrix licks his brother Zappa's ear. I assumed (and I could be completly wrong) that he's doing it to clean Zappa's ears. Is it possible the the bacteria could be from licking Zappa's ears?
I'm going to ask my vet. Anyone else with 2 dogs have their dogs licking inside each other ears? |
Our last two boys always cleaned eachothers ears and had no problems. |
Rags and Pepsi clean each other's ears too. No problems here. |
Chewie cleans everyone's ears here. Even the cat's! No troubles so far. |
