I am quite nervous about her flight, so a prayer from everyone here that she arrives safely would be appreciated. And Maureen, we want an update as soon as you get her...and pictures too!! |
|
Congrats to the new owners! I'd be so stressed about any long flight, so fingers crossed. At least the weather seems good. |
Hopes and prayers that all goes well for your beautiful Lady and her new family |
Here's her picture I was suppossed to have on my previous post of Katie.
|
Oooooh... she's lovely Amber.
Please let us know when she safely arrives in Scotland. |
Do you think she'll start barking with a brogue now?
Good luck! |
She's beautiful, Amber.
Sending lots of luck for her flight and best wishes to her new family. |

Wonderful Amber, hope the flight goes smoothly and look forward to seeing pictures with her new family over in Scotland. Wonder if she gets to wear a Kilt now or a tartan bow Pretty girl too. |
wow amber i just showed the pic to my 3 fur kids to show them what a real clean.beautiful groomed oes should look like |
I hope all went well on Katie's flight to Scotland.
She is a beautiful girl! Nice meeting you too, Amber |
Poor Amber and new mommie. They are having some problems with customs so Katie is detained in London. They have some strange rules that they don't bother to tell people when importing.
They told her the crate was too small...and they are making the new owner buy a bigger crate for the flight to Scotland. One the size for a Wolfhound. I know Amber is beside herself, so I am sure all good thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. I know she will tell the whole story after it's done. Just thought I would pass it on. |
THAT is JUST the reason i refuse to fly into the UK iqwth a dog!
When they quit having quarentine this is the 'new' way to get people to pay money................. "the crate isn't big enough" THIS is the reason I fly to Paris, and then 'chunnel' it thru to the UK...... no problems and MUCH MCUH CHEAPER!!!! |
Just a quick update.....I shipped Katie in a 500 kennel -40x27x30, which is an extra large crate. The next size is the Giant Crate, for Newfies, St.Bernards, Irish Wolfhounds, etc. Katie is a 70 lb pup - hardly the size of a newf! Long story short, the agent at the airport from the agency responsible for Katie (you must hire an agent) had no idea what he was doing this morning and this is the reason Katie was unable to catch her flight to Edinburough as planned. First he stated he needed a microchip certificate, and that he needed Canada customs to have stamped a form (Customs does not check things leaving its own country...duuh!) We have no microchip certificate - we have the Official Veterinary Certificate which the vet filled out stating she administered the microchip on such and such a date, etc. Then next his excuse he had was she was in too small of a crate and that he was suing Air Canada (again....WHAT?!?!) I just talked to Maureen (Katies new owner) and we think we have it figured out. The agent did not want to have to wait around for her flight to Edinburough because that would have meant he would have to stay past his shift. Anyways, on the plus side, Katie is doing well. She is in a run and will hopefully be on a flight tomorrow to Scotland.
Ali...we agree...this is a huge money grab - the whole crate thing. They want Maureen to purchase the giant crate from them, and then naturally the airfare goes up. And to top it off, they told her she could not have the crate Katie came in since they need it for evidence. UNBELIEVEABLE!!! |
not only that but the 'having to pay the agent' thing is a scam. They also won't let you collect your dog yourself. Last time i checked when we were going over it was 500 gbp to have the papers walked to one building, and another 450 to have the dog delivered to you.
whats idiotic about this is a) they think they will continue to get away with this scam and b) we need to be educating others as to it and the cheaper ways to get dogs into UK. When i took Delilah and showed her in the U.K. at Crufts........... American Airlines to Paris $80.00 each way rental car $230.00 for week chunnel for car, Norm&I and Delilah $350 for week. That is still half what you have paid b4 this new crate scam!! |
Yikes, yikes, yikes. |
Things like this just infuriate me. No matter the government or country, the red tape and bureaucracy crap just kills me. Just tell us up front what the rules are and we'll follow them. But changing them in the middle of the game to get more money out of you is just wrong.
Hope she arrives in Scotland safely today. |
Wow, this is pretty shocking!!!! And I will unfortunately, have to get my boys to Europe one day when we move back to Hungary. I know it now thanks to Ali and Amber that I will not fly through London.
I am so surprised by this. They were always so helpful and nice with us flying through - when we were moving to America from Hungary we had far too many bags and they said it's going to cost us and extra 500 GBP!!! We told them we just got married, moving over the ocean, etc. they told us it was B.A.'s wedding present to us then + they put us on business class. I suppose they are nicer when there are no dogs. Has anybody every considered going to Europe by a boat? With the dogs I mean. Amber do you have any updates on Katie? I hope you are all okay! |
What a nightmare! I hope Katie gets there safe and sound and I'm sure she will love her new family
Congrats Maureen! |
Ok, I just returned from shopping and my husband said Maureen called and she has Katie. Yaaayyyy!!!! |
Whew!!! Good news! |
Glad she got there in the end, what a nightmare for you both.
You have certainly alerted me now to avoid any stop over in the UK with a dog. I can't believe what happened just horrible for you both. Look forward to seeing piccys too of Katie in scotland. |
Hi' Folks
Katie is eventually here Whew what a nonsense Air Canada uses James Cargo as their agent in the UK these con merchants have nothing to do with Heathrow airport or any other airline. First they insisted we must have an P E T S passport, which is not required when exporting from a none EU country, costing us 84 GBP, they then phoned us 4hrs later to inform us that the crate Katie had flown to the UK by Air Canada was too small, and Air Canada would be sued, which meant they would have to keep the crate for evidence we would be issued a crate that someone had kindly left them. Well if you need to fly in a hippo, yes your right this would be the crate to use at the same time they were telling me the flight would cost an extra 280 GBP for the larger crate. Of course this was like a red rag to a bull I phoned them, and told them I required all these changes in writing as I would be in touch with my solicitors as we intended sueing Air Canada for breaking the DEFRA rules on crate size. Still awaiting an answer. Anyway when we went to Edinburgh Airport to pick up Katie, the guy at the cargo place asked if we wished to keep the wooden crate built for the hippo we told him he could keep it, just in case some circus might want to export a hippo. But when he opened the door , and we saw the crate, a miracle it was the crate Amber had sent Katie in from Canada. Think James Cargo took cold feet no brains that they are. So Katie is home safe, and well with us she is gorgeous I could not have been more pleased if I had won the lottery she is a beauty, she really comes up to the breed standard. Thanks to Amber who has done a lot of running around doing everything needed to get Katie to us. I have not finished with James Cargo, and will be in touch with Air Canada to tell them they need to get their act together, and dump these chancers. I will keep you posted. again thank you Amber, also every one who has posted regarding this topic. Maureen |
I am thrilled that Katie is safe and home with you.
I am only afraid that she won't be understanding y'all.... was that English you were just typing? Chancers? DEFRA? took cold feet Chancers? Just kidding. Yay for Katie and Maureen! I think we need a welcome home photo! |
I agree...a photo with her new mommie!!! |
I am so happy to hear that Katie finally made it to her new home safely. Good luck with her and I am sure, in person, she is more beautiful then her pics. Such an ordeal, but thank God it is over with. Enjoy your beautiful sheepie girl and much luck in her championships. |
What a relief that Katie made it safely!
So the lesson learned here are - don't fly Air Canada into Heathrow. Wonder if other "agents" act the same as this one did. So since they shipped Katie in the same crate Amber originally put her in, you should not have had to pay the additional 280 GBP they wanted because of shipping her in a bigger crate, right? Ay-yi-yi! |
Hi' Guys, just to let you know Katie is doing well. She has not picked up our Scottish lingo yet, but she is coming on. She really is a gem with a fantastic nature. I took a few pics today my husband showed her how to drive the ski boat, she will learn how to ski next [/img] [img] [/img] [img]
I will keep you updated. Maureen[/img] |
Oh I just got back to this thread.
So sorry both you and Amber had such a exasperating experience. But I'm glad your baby finally arrived safely. Quote: the guy at the cargo place asked if we wished to keep the wooden crate built for the hippo we told him he could keep it, just in case some circus might want to export a hippo
Glad you were able to keep a sense of humor during a difficult time. I can't wait to see pictures. Congratulations on your new sheepie-girl! |
I made a mess of putting Katies pics up, but here goes hope I do it right this time.
Muareen. |
Katie is beautiful and your pics ae lovely |
Oh she's beautiful!
|
Oh what a great set of pics! The scenery and the dog; priceless.
I would only change one thing. The logo on the baseball cap is a little off. It should have a big, old-fashioned letter "B". Thanks for sharing! |
Wonderful picturess! Katie is beautiful, and the Scottish countryside and lochs are wonderful. |
Oh wonderful! So happy to see she made it safely and is adjusting so well to her new home. Congratulations! |
