Bad Girls of the North: Fairbanks show

Well...my "break" is over! Its time now for my winter show schedule to start.

Tomorrow morning we head back up north for the Bad Girls of the North Fairbanks art fair. The "Bad Girls" put on 3 art shows: Fairbanks, Anchorage, and "Bad Girls do the Valley" in Wasilla. These are really cool shows....indoors at nice hotels, with food, live music, wine, the works! :D

Wish me luck...and please cross your paws for NO SNOW till we get back home! :plead: Sorry Mrs. J.....I KNOW you want snow to come soon....but I just don't feel ready to combat icy roads on an 8 hour drive!

Ill take lots of pics! :D

Hope you sell out! Forcing you to have a long, productive winter.
Okay....... no snow for awhile. ;)

Drive carefully. I hear it's a boring drive. :(
Good luck!! Sounds like you will have a lot of fun! :D

Hmmmm.....boring......well, if all go's well, yes! We tend to amuse ourselves on this drive by pointing out all the "landmarks" and memories from earlier trips: "Oh look, theres where we skidded and rolled over that one time!" "Hey, remember when the river flooded the road here?" "isn't this the milepost where we waited for a tow truck for 5 hours?"

The scenery on this drive is actually very beautiful at this time of year, too, and sometimes you can get to see migrating caribou. I'm excited!....but of course, the down side, right now, is that my work is STILL not done, and here I am procrastinating on the OES forum! :? 8O
And what better way to procrastinate???

Good luck with the show! And I'll keep my fingers crossed for no snow for you yet!
Take the the Richardson and Glenn Highways (AK Routes 1 and 2 I think) and you can see this:

The Richardson Monument at Isabel Pass!!!!

It's about 2 or 2 1/2 hours longer (about 150 miles).

Don't you think these views might be worth it?
My husband did say the drive was nice.

Ron, 2 more hours on top of the extremely long drive already?!?! Mr J is someone who would want to. I told ravenmoonart that anything more than 2 hrs on the road, and I start getting moody.

edit* just looked at those pics. wow!!!!!!!! amazing. i love the moose on the road.
Wishing you lots of luck and NO SNOW!

The Richardson HWY is a lovely drive, yes....but keep in mind....that 2 extra hours in SUMMER  That beautiful high pass in your pics is probably filled with snow by now! Besides....there are almost NO open gas stations along the Rich after Labor day. (very few along the Parks either :( ) We are quite fond of Delta (a tiny community on the Richardson HWY) and go there occasionally in summer. Scott worked a Woolly Mammoth dig there (as camp cook) a while back, too. 8)
Good luck at the shows, Laurel. They sound like a lot of fun. :D

Ron, those vistas are spectacular! What a lovely drive!! :D
Good luck Laurel! :D :D

It's so strange hearing you talk about snow when it's 92 here today 8O
Good luck on your sale Laurel! Have a safe trip! 8)
Best of luck on your trip and of course no luck needed on your sales, your art speaks for its self :D
Have fun Laurel love the name of the fairs "BAD GIRLS" hmmm wish I could go
Already looking forward to your pictures - probably the only way I will get to visit Alaska!

Hoping for a great show and no snow!
This show sounds like fun!! Good luck!
Its about 10ish AM, and we are finally done (with art and framing) and packing up. :D

Thanks for all the well wishes
Stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sell the good stuff!
Well, it doesn't look like we'll be getting snow this weekend although the mountains have some, but... the weather forecast says chance of snow for where ravenmoonart is... Here's hoping for clear roads for your drive back!!!! Hope you're having a good time even with all the work!
Woo-Hoo! :yay:

The show ROCKED! 8) Our best year at this fair ever :D
Right now I'm sitting, exhausted, but happy, in my hotel room. tomorrow we head home early in the AM....I cant wait to see my pups!
Laurel,
I'm so glad you did so well. :high5:
Way to go, Lauel.

Be safe driving home.
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: way to go :D
Well we made it home ok. :) It snowed a bit in the high elevations, but no ice build up on the roads yet. It was really a dream weekend....lovely driving weather, TONS of enthusiastic customers (I actually had people come in on Saturday to buy, who said that they had been forced to come back because the crowds were so thick on Friday that they couldn't get into my booth! 8O ) And, best of all, NO vehicle mishaps!.....for us, that is :?

The one really bad (and weird) thing that occurred was that a guest at the hotel (where the show was being held) tried to back her very large SUV out of a parking space while all off us art-booth folks were offloading our displays and product, and she somehow managed to crash into 3 different parked vehicles! 8O 8O 8O It was a miracle no one got hurt! Between her SUV, and the 3 artist's trucks, I heard that the total was close to 50K in damage! 8O
So glad to hear you are home ok. Wierd about the SUV accident, but glad no one was hurt. Sounds like the Suv was bigger than she needed to be driving! We will be looking forward to pics - hope you had time to take some. Great you had a good weekend and good driving weather.
My landscape/travel pics are posted under "pictures" :) ....But here are a few show pics I just had to share....My FAVORITE booth: Alaska Leash Company. Handmade collars and leashes by my friend Julie. 8)

Here's my booth, right within all-to-easy shopping distance of Julie's, and right across from a wonderful handmade clothing booth.

Glad your show went so well!

Does your friend have a website with the doggie stuff?
Here is the link to Julie's website:

Laurel, Do you know if she can make it where you have the long center leash and two longer couplers coming off of it where you could walk 3 dogs but only have one triangle handle to hold?

I can find couplers that allow for walking 2 but not the 3 of them.

I don't think she does those as a standard item, but I'm certain she could do one as a special order. Ive had her make me all kinds of things....Tie outs, a long line leash for training, etc. :D

Thanks for posting the link....that's one thing I haven't learned how to do yet.

If you go to her site, be sure to check out the photo of her husband walking their 3 dogs...it was taken right next to the upper part of our property . Julie and her husband live just up the road from us, making picking up or ordering new collars and leashes VERY convenient!
Cool road... and good pavement, too! It looks almost as wide as most of the remote highways.

The triangle handle looks rigid in the product pictures, but it looks curved in the hand on the FAQs page.

Is there a stiffener (like a tube or something) inside the foam on the triangle handle?

No, it just a very thick foam rubber. It flexes some, but not much...very comfortable on your hand. I love the long "splitters" for walking two dogs together, Abby and Bert walk very nicely that way, and kinda look like they're pulling a sled
Your boothes look great (yours & Julie's). :D It would not do for me to live near or work with Julie. I'd be buying every new item she had.
