Any Other lovers of Dwight- Pam- Jim and of course Michael??? |
|
It has taken me a long time to get into this show. I mean, I got it and all and why it was funny, but I was never intrigued. But since it's been on reruns this summer with nothing better on I've been watching and it's good! Good thing I have DVR--Grey's comes on at the same time! |
The Office is such an awesome show! Dwight and Andy are completely hilarious! I have been counting down the days until this show was coming back on. (And now my husband can have a new quote besides, "bears...beets...Battlestar Galactica" )
I'm so excited that Karen is out of the way and Pam and Jim are FINALLY going to get together!! |
This is my favorite show- I'm so excited for it to start. I have class until 8pm though so I'll have to watch all the episodes the next day
I saw a preview yesterday that was really funny (Ryan's line was especially funny-I won't spoil it if no one else has seen it) |
Thursday night is must see tv. Earl first, then The Office. I hope the ending of last season wasn't a tease. I got real tired of Pam and Jim not getting together.
"Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration" |

"Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration" LOL- I heard that Phyllis may be pregnant this season. What could be funnier than that. The episode where she was flashed about put me over the edge. |
If someone didn't laugh during the Office Olympic episode from season 1 or the Christmas episode from seaon 2, they should seriously check to see if they have a pulse.
Who hasn't thought about cooking bacon in bed on a Forman grill? |
Me.
Still the unfunniest show on TV, even though Joan and I thought the 40 year old Virgin was funny at times. Although kissing the gay guy to prove he had no problem with gay guys was amusing, in a slapstick kind of way. |
Ron, you're a killjoy! I admit it took watching several episodes to get into it. I was a fan of the British "Office" and thought the American version would stink. But I've come to appreciate both and they are 2 different shows.
Doesn't everybody know at least one person who is like someone in that show?????? I've neer thought of grilling bacon on my George Foreman but I laughed til I cried when Jim sprayed Dwight with the water bottle in that episode. It's still my fave. |

Yes- you are. |
Come on, Ron... That show is a PC nightmare!! It's hilarious!
What about: the episode where oscar comes out of the closet (thanks to Michael!) and they have a dept. meeting and Michael and Dwight say "I think all of the office gays should identify themselves!" and "phyllis is gay! she makes no attempt to be feminine!!" and then they use gay-dar on everyone the episode where Michael almost jumps off the roof (onto a castle bounce house) to prove that their job is more dangerous than the warehouse workers? the episode with the bat in the office and Jim pretended to be a vampire and Dwight caught the bat while putting a trash bag over the alcoholic lady's head? the episode with the Benjamin Franklin "stripper"??? ...who wasn't really a stripper and tried to teach the girls about electricity, but they thought he was there for Phyllis' bachelorette party so they turned everythign he said into some sexual inuendo No? Nothing at all? Not even a giggle? |
The thing about the show that has taken me a long time to get over, is I don't like watching uncomfortable situations, which is why I didn't really like the 40 year old virgin, either.
I know being un-PC and being socially unacceptable is partly what makes the show so funny, but it just makes me feel sad or uncomfortable myself for the people who are in the spotlight (for something they don't want to be in). Like when the offices merged and Michael had the orientation and wanted the extremely large man to climb on top of the table and he ended up quitting. I'm all for being un-PC though! |

I'm like you. At first I just found the sow annoying but the more I watched it the funnier it got, no I love it. We'll be DVR'ing as well, Grey's will ALWAYS get top billing in my house |

Haha this is one of my favorites. I love when Kelly says not to kill the bat because it's a living creature, and then it flies into the room and she freaks out and starts sceaming "KILL IT KILL IT!" |
I don't know if I've written here why it is I dislike the show, and barney1 has hit the nail on the head.
I feel for the manager; I feel his discomfort and I feel like this kind of summarizes how I felt when I was a manager -- socially awkward and never sure how to behave, never sure if what I was doing was right from a personnel perspective, feeling isolated and distanced from people with whom I had so much in common. He gets himself into the situations that I desperately wanted to avoid at all costs, and it makes me squirm. It kind of takes away from the humor, knowwhatImean? |
I guess I understand... If it was real I wouldn't think it was funny, but the characters and situations are SO bizarre that it cracks me up. (Haa! Like when Michael was supposed to give a presentation for corporate and instead he made a rap video of some kind). Plus, you know Steve Carrell is doing it all for a laugh, so I would feel sorry for him if I didn't laugh!
I feel the same about slapstick comedy as you do about the office though. I don't think people getting hurt or falling down is funny. I don't laugh at clowns or the 3 Stooges or anything like that. Somebody tripping or getting hit on the head does not strike me as hilarious. Guess we all have our own unique sense of humor personalities! [/i] |

I like it for just the reason you don't. As a manager- I can laugh- and think- no matter how bad I screw up- there are always those that have done worse! I try not to over anaylize TV or movies. I guess I am shallow when it comes to entertainment. NOW- books are a different story! In my book club, I am always the most vocal and sometimes am accused of over thinking the topics and the messages of the author. |
Ooh! You have a book club! I would love to do that some day. I love to read! It would be so much fun to sit around with a group of women, with some wine and appetizers, and discuss our POV of whatever we just read. Literature, fiction, or whatever. Although, I'm sure there are more things to discuss with the Grapes of Wrath or Wuthering Heights than with the Devil Wears Prada or the Nanny Diaries... but oh well. They're all good reads!
As soon as I'm done with school, I want to join one!!! |

As soon as I'm done with school, I want to join one!!! I love my club. A friend took me kicking and screaming into the world of good wine and good reads- and I now - I never want to leave! We are very diversified in our reading, and yes- we do fun things as well. We take a summer break, and next Wednsday begins our new book- "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. I can't put it down. My sister does an online club- and loves it! |
In my opinion - the season premiere of The Office was over the top!!! Pam and Jim together- Dwight / Angela and the cat Sprinkles/ The Rabies Run..... Funny - Funny- Funny!! |
Joan and I watched about 10 minutes (from just prior to the start of the race) and just changed the channel. Not a chuckle. |

It's not easy to make me laugh hard out loud watching TV shows, but this one totally does it for me. I just think it is so creative and just crack up with some of the stuff they come up with. |

Ron.. Ron.. Ron.... How do you feel about " Boston Legal" - another favorite |
Well, we missed this episode of Boston Legal. We loved it at first, but it became too campy last season.
I think it jumped the shark for me when the two of them strode into a courthouse in Colonial Garb. I had always enjoyed the "irreverence", but when it became "ridiculous" it lost a lot for me. I hope to see the premier online as well. |
I'm not one to laugh out loud, but I shouted with laughter when Michael hit Meredith. The look on her face as she was pressed against the windscreen was priceless.
I'm glad Jim and Pam are official, at least to the camera. I just hope the writers don't focus on that relationship to the exclusion of the foolishness that happens in the workplace. And you just know Ryan is a d!ck and will get his comeuppance! |

Haaaaaaaaa! I know it's horrible, but Jason and I were cracking up at that too. And then the rabies run. He said, "Myth: 3 people die each year in the U.S. from rabies." then he stops, all serious, "Fact: FOUR people die each year!" lol Ewww... and Andy's nipples! Gross! |

I finally just watched this on DVR today. OMG, it was hilarious. "The doctors did all they could and tried to save her." "Why would you phrase it like that?" I love Stanley. |

OMG- Stanley is hilarious. His dry wit is the best. I really love the good 'ole belly laughs I get from this show! |
I watched the whole thing online last night. I got one half chuckle, literally.
I keep trying, but this show is just not funny for me. Am I the only one? |

Sigh
I don't remember; it might have been in the conference room during the religion scene, but it wasn't even memorable. I really don't wanna offend people here, you guyz are certainly allowed to enjoy a show that I don't! But I guess I just don't get it. Maybe now I can understand that sometimes parents just don't get their kids or something. I found a lot of the humor to be "lowbrow" kind of stuff, like "I didn't see the beginning, I saw the end" and the nipple chafing stuff, and making fun of a fat guy running using him as a windbreak (always good for a laugh, huh?). The dead cat Sprinkles wasn't funny -- I don't think that attempting to euthanize a cat with antihistamines and freezing it is very funny either. Why not talk about putting it in the microwave to warm up its joints or something and give kids more ideas? The talking to the camera and the glances to the camera and the smirking for the camera -- well, they were humorous for me for the first few episodes, but... ya know, I feel that's kinda played. Then there's that whole thing about the manager not knowing how to behave which makes me uncomfortable. Other than that, I guess it was OK. I don't think I'll be watching it anymore, and if I do I will keep my opinions to myself from here on out. I don't mind discussing and/or arguing about it (we haven't yet! ) but I don't wanna be that "killjoy" for everyone. So enjoy your season! |
My husband can't stand the show either, but he also isn't a fan of movies w/that type of humor. Always tells me he prefers older comedies. I get why others enjoy it though. |
