I just use clinique under eye repair (or something like that), but I would LOVE to find a good product--I don't sleep well so I ALWAYS have circles... |
Good thread.
Ever since I had a baby, I have to apply concealer twice due to my circles. I leave it on for a minute so it can dry, and then pat so I get maximum coverage. While they say it's from toxins, lack of sleep, etc........mine are genetic and so dark. Grrr... |
Bare Escentuals Bisque or Summer Bisque. Or Every Day Minerals Concealer. The Every Day selections are a little better because they have a wider variety of tones to choose from. Gotta have the right brush.
Don't know how it works if you use liquid foundation on top of it, though. |
i havent found anything that works great either!! i do the same thing....put first coat on, let dry, add second coat...new added problem is now that im getting older....not only do i have dark circles but i have wrinkles to go with them.....sigh!
i even bought some of that nioxin whatever stuff...you know the expensive 60.00 for less than an ounce.....well, it didnt work all that great..... i say just get a super dark tan...... |
I'm currently using this and it works okay. I haven't found anything yet that I'd just rave about...but I keep searching.
http://www.marykay.com/color/facialhigh ... fault.aspx Like Jo, I usually double dip and apply it twice. |
Ugh I have the worst circles. I hate using concealer because I ride my bike to school/work so it just gets all greasy.
Don't think make something that just magically makes them go away? |
I call mine raccoon eyes. That is what Dad and my Grandmother both called theirs. I have had dark circles since I was a little kid. : (
I use a goopy concealer (sorry I have no idea what brand as the label is worn off) blend it in real well then cover it with foundation. The only time they are less noticable is when I do have a tan. I have tried the St Ives Dark Circle stuff.... I have heard it works great but it literally made my skin feel like it was burning. |
That's me this morning, I have a cold so did not get much sleep I don't think there is anything that can cover up my Panda eyes today. |
Is a properly groomed fall an option? |
Like others I am still open to something better, but this is what has worked best for me so far. I use a "green" color stick concealer first. Maybelline and Physicians Formula both market it and probably others. Green is opposite red on the color wheel, so it appears to take out or fade the reds/purples. Then I dot a little more foundation or a concealer in a natural tone over the top. Dermotologist told me to use the tip of my ring finger to dot the make-up and to never pull or drag the fragile skin.
Good thread. I will be watching! |

When I want the dark circles to blend in, I paint above the eyes. It is a statement, and you would be surprised how many door to door people just leave when I answer the door. |
I wish I could find a spackling compound that covered everything... wrinkles - dark circles- what seems to be the beginning of AGE SPOTS. |
I too have my Dad's raccoon eyes. Stress & insomnia don't help my cause either.
I have been using "My Spots Are Concealed" it is the best so far. Doesn't stay on very long though. I did try the yellow Physician's formula it was okay. The green didn't do it for me. Ron, I do like the "Cousin It" idea. It would solve other flaws too |

THANKS RON!
One of my favorite songs, (always knew I would someday be that Mom). |
I definately need the Cousin It hair do today. Well everyday would be good. |
Best thing you can use to cover dark circles
YSL Touche Eclat You just can't beat it!! |
Ah Vicki, I was going to say the same thing lol YSL - touche eclat does it the best !!! |
What is that? |
This stuff works amazingly well-- you can see a visible difference. It isn't cheap but it's probably the best product out there in terms of a repairing product rather than a cover up. My mom works in cosmetics and we try everything and this is the only product I've ever stuck with.

Wow...you're not kidding. But, if it works, it'd be worth it. I wonder if the YSL Touche Eclat is available here? |
I'd say it would be about £24 here, you get what you pay for. Its really very light in colour but once blended it works a treat. My other tip would also be to drink plenty of water, give yourself a facial once a week and make sure you take every scrap of mascara off at night, that can cause dark rings and puffiness - I am a qualified beauty therapist - although not my day job - it just doesn't pay
Anymore advice ladies lol ??? |
I really like the Lancome Photôgenic Skin-Illuminating Concealer SPF 15. it isn't cheap, like $25.00 for a tiny pot of it, but it worked very well for me. I have very fair skin so any under eye circles show very easily. There is an application brush (sold seperately) that I would recommend using.
I want to try the YSL stuff now, though... just to compare. |
I've used both hylexin and strivectin. You can get both for cheap on ebay. Hylexin is $39 there.
My problem is remembering to put it on regularly. |

My problem is remembering to put it on regularly. Are they basically the same? Do you have a preference? |

Oh, you weren't asking my advice? Never mind. |
Strivectin are for nasty wrinkles. Recommended by Oprah, etc... but the other one ButtersStotch recommended is for the eyes! I'm pretty sure you don't put Strivectin too close to your eyes (I used mine for my forehead wrinkles)
I didn't use hylexin long enough to know whether or not it worked. I'm lazy when it comes to routines. |

It does. I inherited my mom's circles, too. You won't go from circles to no circles but there is a considerable lightening and I never look as puffy or tired. I only ever remember it once a day myself. |

Yes it is available, here is a link Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat (Radiant Touch Highlighter) |
How do I know which shade to get? |
I updated that link |
I went for the lightest one and just blended t in and them applied my foundation over the top.
What sort of colour and tones is your skin? |
Vicki & George wrote: I went for the lightest one and just blended t in and them applied my foundation over the top.
What sort of colour and tones is your skin? You'll actually get better coverage out of the concealer if you put your foundation on first, then the concealer. The foundation already provides you a tiny bit of coverage but is more sheer than the concealer so, in theory, you'll have to use a bit less concealer by putting it on top and it should look less thick. Also, the foundation already kind of "fills" fine lines so the concealer should sit better on top of it. Estee Lauder actually makes a very similar product, too-- it's what I use. It's nice having a mom in cosmetics. I haven't had to pay for anything in years. |
My mother was fond of Estee Lauder for many many many years.
Joan likes Clinique. I prefer au naturale (and if that's a real company, I meant "no makeup".) |
My mom is a devoted Estee Lauder buyer. No matter how many things I get her to try, she loves her EL. |
I love this post. I have the genetic black circles too - from my paternal grandma's side of the family. We call them the Bogotty Eyes!
I never remember to do the treatments, no matter what product I have tried. One thing I have found to make them worse - working 12 hr nights! My glasses do help camoflage them, thank goodness. |
Tip - always apply concealour first, either use a small brush, then if you apply foundation use a damp sponge, it will blend more easily and you use less. If you use fingers, they get warm and you don't want to bring any warmth to your skin, as that then produces moisture - good for facial, not good for your make-up.
For a weekly facial, I think you can use any product, it doesn't need to be expensive. A good cleanse all the way down the neck and to the bust line, tone, then exfoliate, then tone, then with a cleanser, just gently massage the face and neck for about 5-10 mins, (this brings moisture to the skin, warmth & improves blood circulation) always moving up and in towards the eyes, never drag away from the face. Tone, then either add a mask or just apply face cream, always gently around the eyes working your way towards your nose. I do this twice a week, its great to have some me time xxxxxx |

Reawwwwwr! |
Ron, stop causing trouble lol we all have different preferences and its what works for you, but speaking as a professional, the correct way is concealour, then foundation lol I'm not causing trouble Butterscotch
The correct order of things is, concealour, foundation, powder, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, blusher, lipstick - now I never put my make up on in that order |
Oh boy!
(How does Joahaeyo say it? "/me Gets popcorn" ?) |

I think different lines actually recommend different things for their products, too. For Estee Lauder, that's the way they teach in their schools. I know she did it the other way for awhile too until about 8 years ago or so. |
