I don't have it now but I need to get names of companies. With 3 dogs I think it would come in very handy.
Looking forward to seeing what others say. Thanks for posting this. |
My last sheepie was from champion lines and her parents were international champs.... I had so many medical problems with her and it cost so much money. I loved her so much so it was all worth it but I vowed to get insurance with the next dog I got. Lily and Bear are backyard pups and both have insurance to the max on them.... so far I have only needed it to pay for spay/neuter, vax and med on them. I kind of think that it is one of those things that if you dont have it you're pet will be more sick and youll have wished you had it as opposed to if you had it you would rarely use it. I definitely think it is worth while for major injuries.. hit by car, cancer, any trauma or major illness. It's not so good for the small stuff cause it has to be a lot of small stuff to add up to be worth filing for.
I do think there is a down side to the insurance and that is that the diagnosis has to be very clear otherwise they will go with a diagnosis that fits the symptoms your pet has ( e.g lily had a small bite from her and bear playing, as symptoms she was licking it and we had to shave and she had a small secondary infection going on, no real definite diagnosis to put down except bite and secondary infection... the insurance termed it as pyodermatitis, the next time if she really does get pyoderm then our allowance for that category has already been used up...). For me the point came down to... It's insurance just like people, you may need it sometimes and sometimes you wont. Certain people use it more than others but if something happens and you dont have it then it will end up costing more. I just didnt want to take any chances plus for my 2 dogs the max insurance costs me less the $1000 a year. |
