I joined this forum because since I was just a little girl I have always wanted a OES, and am now thinking about getting one... However, it won't be for sometime, I'd still like to find more out about the breed before I buy a puppy. I do agility with my Mini Aussie, and once I get a OES pup, and it's the right age, I will be doing agility with it... Well, this seems like a great forum, and I really look forward to fidning more out about such a great breed! Shay |

Welcome to the forum. You're in the right place to learn everything you ever wanted to know (and more!) and living with and loving an Old English Sheepdog. |
Thanks, I really have always loved the breed, even though I have never seen one in person, or really, talked to any who own them.
I plan on e-mailing some breeders, telling them I may be intrested in a few years (Or atleast, I hope my dane lives that long - if not longer) and aksing about their personality... But, when I posted about OES's on another dog forum someone gave me this link, so I tought I'd check it out Shay |
Welcome, Shay! You've come to the right place! |
welcome!!!!!!!!!!!! |
hiya shay!! welcome!! |
Hi, Shay!
Welcome from southern Ontario! I think OES's would do great in agility IF you get the right temepratment and a dog with the appropriate drive. They are normally not that interested in excercise, but that is not to say they can't learn. Bosley will do stuff but not really fast...Just kind of to get attention. He is a bit of a clumsey ox, too. This is a picture of Dixie when she was shaved down due to skin problems. She also jumps a baby gate like nobody's business! This gal is fast! |
Thanks everyone... Good to know I wouldn't be totaly crazy running a OES in agility.... Plus it'd be mostly for fun... I've got an Aussie who's got the speed part... Now I need a goof who will probably always knock a bar, but have a fun run :p |
Bosley's mom wrote: They are normally not that interested in excercise, but that is not to say they can't learn. ??? I haven't met one who was healthy who wasn't just full of energy and just raring to go, go, go! Do you mean something else?
Training ease, perhaps comprised of assertiveness, intelligence, and "eagerness to please", plus innate herding instinct and prey drive differs a lot. Welcome to the forum! |
Welcome! I don't know why an O.E.S couldn't do agility.
Mine feels that she's "obligated" to jump up on every stone wall that we pass on walks & leap through the air to dismount! It's quite a sight. Like walking a 65 lb. shaggy ballon! |
Hi and welcome from Ontario |
Hi Shay G'day from Oz, OES excell in agility. |
Welcome! |
Welcome from Alaska! |
Welcome Shay! I have Violet OES and China Aussie Shepherd. (aren't they the greatest) If you would like to take a peek at my girls plz click on the camera icon. I would love to see a pic of your min Aussie.
I hope you enjoy the OES Forum. |
welcome to the community you can find out everything you want to know from the members here (great people). Do lots of research when looking for a OES and pay the little bit extra to get a dog from a good breeder and not some puppy mill. You should check out the videos of the OES doing the agility course. Look under the pictures link in the index. Absolutely hilarious! They can do it... when they want to. |
