My dog is eating grass...
I only just got him so I don't know what he was like before, but he's been eating grass all day today. I've read somewhere that dogs aren't meant to eat grass...any ideas as to why he does this? |

Hi and welcome to the forum! We have a 5 month old sheepie and she ate grass for a week or so when we just got her. I don't know the cause of it, maybe she is lacking something in her diet? She pooped green for a few days, and freaked us out. I called the vet, and he told me that it wasn't a big deal, just watch her, and when she eats it, distract her. Maybe you can give her some veggies to snack on, so that she gets whatever she is looking for from the grass. Keep us posted!!!  |
I've had two sheepies who took the name "sheep" personally. Neither lacked for nutrients in their food, but they just like(d) the taste. Sometimes they will eat it to throw up......all the chlorophyl or some such, sometimes just because it tastes good. Simone especially likes the grass around the pole where the boys pee..........GROSS!!! 
Distracting as previously mentioned is best because if too much is eaten, it comes up in a glob in the middle of the night right beside the bed or in the hall way. Fortunately (?) it is easier to clean up in the nice nest-like bundle. |

Jack and Annabelle eat grass sometimes, and really Jack is almost daily. I had read they ate grass for lots of reasons. The nutrients, upset stomach, and nervousness is some that I have heard before. I do believe Jack just enjoys a salad.  I wouldn't worry too much, but keep in mind if you put any pesticides or weed killers down on your lawn.

| Strange, Abbi began eating grass when we got Root Beer. I bet he is relieving himself there! I bet that's whe she's doing it. I was wondering why she was becoming a sheepie all of the sudden. |
