Unusual Poisoning An after hours emergency centre had a most intriguing case. A dog was put outside at home, normal and two hours later was rushed to the emergency clinic. The dog presented was laid on it's side, non-responsive, cold with a slow heart rate as if it had been anaesthetized. After extensive questioning as to the presence of any poisons in the back yard, it was decided to empty the dogs stomach under general anaesthesia. To the vets surprise, all that came out was a feathery remains of what looked like a budgie. On checking with the owners, they mentioned they had been in a few days earlier to have the bird euthanased (by lethal injection of the standard Barbiturate anaesthetic) and had buried it in a grave in the yard under a brick. You can guess the rest. |

Goodness, just how much did they inject into that little budgie?? Hopefully it was a chemical with an antidote, otherwise doggie had to sleep it off. |
