I have the same problem with one of my dogs. What I've been doing is giving her a command like sit or down and stay, until guests at least get in the door, and then allow her to greet them. She seems calmer with most people that way, but not my parents. She still jumps up and barks when they come because she is so excited to see them. Now, when they come I put her on a leash and keep control that way. But obedience classes are the first thing I would suggest. Repitition and consistency, lots of practice. |
We have the same problem with Mopsey! LOL She doesn't bark, just jumps on people. My trainer suggested keeping a short leash on her in the house, but always when you are home so she can be supervised, and when someone comes in, all you do, is step on the leash and einore her completely until people are in the house and you have greeted them. Then let her go and greet everyone, if he jumps again, say "off" and step on the leash again, ignoring her once more until she calms down. Just keep at it, for it takes a while for them to understand that they should not jump! When they get excited all training is out the window! LOL But she will get it eventually! Goodluck and keep us posted. Hope this helps a little. |
Our pup Fezziwig has the very same problem! He just turned one and it is incrediably frustrating. He's been leaping, bouncing, jumping, biting, chewing, going on the table etc. He was doing much better (almost perfect) a couple of weeks ago. We put him through an obedience course which he graduated from but in the past 2 weeks (oddly since we got him shaved down) he doesnt want to listen to anyone or do any of his tricks or commands! We don't know what to do with him anymore! If anyone has ANY ideas PLEASE let me know. My pup is making us all c-r-a-z-y!! |
