HELP

We have a 7 month OES who can behave remarkably well at puppy training but is hell to live with at home. He will not give anything up and is persistantly at our slippers. What can we do please HELP. :(

We adopted a 7 month oes from a local recue group. She is incredibly smart. She found all of my 7 year old beanie babies and all I have to say is "that is not yours (or Sam's)" and "Put it back". And she does. She actually picked up one of my tennis shoes and started running around the backyard with it and when I said that the shoe wasn't hers, she put it back with the other one. I was impressed and am hoping my son can do the same with his own toys!

Thank you for your reply I will try this but we are not sure if Barney speaks our language as I am walking around without any slippers to avoid conflict. We will keep you posted.
I had a basket of supplies in my bathroom on the floor and everyday Oreo would take something and then it became a game. Someone suggested to put the basket out of his reach and the game was over. As far as slippers my sisters sheepie carried all kinds of shoes and slippers so things were put up out of his reach after 14 years of that she still keeps her slippers up high. It was just a habit.
i sprayed the bejeezus out of my slippers and shoes with Fooey. Give em a fresh coat daily, if THAT doesn't work, well, your oes really is mad :)
I have never tried this remedy but I have heard that hot pepper (cayenne) works. I have had it recommended for leashes and other items that will neither be on your nor your dog's skin. Please be very careful if you try this you want to startle your puppy not hurt him.
Have you tried "trading up"? Take away the slippers and give him something that is okay like a kong, a chew toy or something that they really enjoy that is acceptable for them to chew. If you have a pet store that you can bring him to, try bringing him there and letting him pick out something...or see what attracts the most of his attention. We had one that really enjoyed slippers, too. We found him a squeaky toy that he just loved and whenever we saw the slipper disappearing, we'd say "leave it" and give him his toy. It worked.
Good luck....hope this works before your feet get too cold!! LOL!

Yea... for "trading up"...we had great success with this approach. We had to have a stash of Good toys in all rooms in the house so when the occasion arose we'd have something to trade! Once our 6 month old Border Schnauzer pupper came out of the bathroom with a light bulb (screw end in his mouth) 8O ...Bad hubby had put the bulb in the trash & returned the basket to the floor... wrong again  Whew...we traded quickly...
We also have had great success with cayenne pepper but only to deterr digging in my flower pots on the patio...it has to be replenished often...it seems to loose it's punch & washes away after rains!
