Would anyone recommend fostering a sheepie? When a sheepie is fostered, about how long it is before the sheepie is places (on average)? I know that there isn't really a set time frame although I have no idea if it is as short as a couple days or if it could run as long as a few years. What are your thoughts? How do I foster a sheepie? |

OOOOooooohhh be careful!
You're treading into dangerous territory! Rescue organization may beat a path to your door! Foster time differes for every situation, from days to months. Many foster homes are lost to adoption (they adopt their foster!). We fostered Mulligan for a bit before we decided to keep him. Contact any OES rescue, I'm pretty sure they'll be grateful for the offer! |
Volunteer!!
There is always a need for foster homes. They are pretty much the backbone of most rescue groups, since most of us do not have permanent facilities and rely entirely on volunteers. That said, there is a qualification process for foster homes, which I am sure you would have no problem meeting. Each dog is different, of course, and depending on it's health & disposition when it comes in to rescue, they could be in foster care anywhere from two weeks to two months. Rarely would it ever be longer than that, at least in my limited experience. I've only been working in rescue for a little over two years, so I am sure there are still LOTS of things I haven't encountered that some of the more seasoned volunteers could tell you. |
Ahhh...I'm seeing a giant loophole! My husband is going to give me some "flack" if I mention getting a new sheepie to keep for good but if I foster one and he falls in love with it...DONE! The sheepie will stay. I'm sure I'll fall in love with all of the sheepies so it will really be up to my husband to fall in love with "the one" (or "the two" because it will be our second doggie!) Thanks. |
